Date(s) Skied: Saturday December 6, 2008

Resort or Ski Area: Camelback

Conditions: Machine made, granular

Trip Report: My first day out this year. Left home later than usual, after agreeing to do some early morning domestic chores first. Also, needed to stop and have a binding release check performed on the way up. Lifts opened at 9am, but I was pulling in to the parking lot at 9:15am.

Grabbed my stuff and hoofed it up to the base area only to gaze upon complete bedlam at all the ticket windows.I didn't time it, but I'm sure I was in line for at least 30 minutes. I do know I was clicking into my bindings at 10:15, after booting up in the lodge.

Back to the ticket lines, it was clear it was a combination of new staff and computer software problems. Looking through the ticket windows you could see manager types running around and everyone had a stressed look on their face. However, the people outside waiting were fairly calm, all in all.

Once on the snow, took some short, easy warm up runs, then started skiing from the top of the mountain. Conditions weren't great, with the machine made already getting scrapped off to expose the hardpack underneath. (The flat light maybe made this situation worse, cause everything looked the same.) But very skiable , and no complaints for December 6th. Although limited in number of trails, there was a choice of green, blue or black runs available from the top. This seemed to do a nice job of dispersing the crowd, as it was fairly easy to avoid people on the way down.

Lift lines were bearable. I noticed several people don't understand what the singles line is for :( But the lift managers noticed it too, and the problem was addressed.

I skied through lunch, packing it in around 2 pm. Was a good first day.

Snow guns were running on closed trails all day, so more terrain opening for the upcoming weekend for sure.
