Can you "own" a line cut at the area?

Bad experience the other day at Stowe. Some guy started ginving me a bunch of crap for "skiing his line" that he cut at the ski area about 1/8 of a mile from the lift.
IMO, if you cut a line in lift served terrain, it's only a matter of time until someone like me, looking for freshness, finds it. Or sees his tracks coming out and goes on a mission to find the entrance. Might get a couple seasons out of it before people just know, might not. What's the concensus?
Can you "own" slack country lines?
Or do you just hope they stay hidden for as long as possible?

Unless it's a cut on his land I don't see how he could 'own' it. I think if you're going to go and make renegade cuts at a resort you should be prepared for others to find it and ski the crap out of it... IMHO.

sorry to hear about the bad experience. people do seem to take ownership over tree runs, whether they maintain them or not. i think i would give anyone a :roll: if they tried to tell me they "owned" the line. hell some mountains don't even own the terrain. hate running into bad vibes on a good day with good conditions. shouldn't even be an issue at a place like stowe which has uber amounts of gladed runs.

usuall when we run into gomers like that I try and just piss on a tree in front of them and then tell them its mine now, unless ofcourse they piss higher up the tree than me.

If that had happened to me I would be posting all over the place on how to get into this guys secret stash. I would love to see this guy try and stop 20+ skiers/riders a day from going into his personal glade. That’s just me though.

I would've just quietly, and without a word, unzipped the pocket of my fleece, pulled my .357 snub CCW, opened the cylinder, give it a lazy spin, put it back in my pocket, re-zip and continue the run.......

those granola freaks get kinda territorial about things they think are theirs. I get lectured about backcountry stuff and I just kind laugh at the people. I would have harassed the hell out of him till he wanted to he wanted to beat me up. Then throw him in a tree well and call it a day.
