Date(s) Skied: Saturday 12/11/10
Resort or Ski Area: Cannon, NH
Conditions: All sorts of stuff... cloudy, upper 20s to low 30s
Trip Report:
Got down there around 8:45 and took By-Pass to Rocket from the top of Peaboby. Bypass was actually good all day for once... won't get used to it though. Rocket, along with Gary's, had HUGE whales down the left sides, groomed in the middle, and ungroomed to the right. Snowmaking on Zoomer all day... made the skiing in some spots good and manky in others. Paulies and Avalanche were off the hook early... your typical early season foot on top of nothing type snow. So much fun. Unfortunately everyone on the entire mountain found out and they were pretty beat up by midday. Jaspers still had untracked knee deep at 1:00, but that started to go a bit faster after Avalanche got crappy and people started looking elsewhere.
Elsewhere on the mountain, Gremlin, Cannon, Toss Up, etc were typical Cannon groomers. Pretty good at opening and sheets of ice by lunchtime. Mid Ravine was slick too and lower was interesting. They opened it on natural... about 2" of it. Literally was just dirt by 12:30 but was still open, but Turnpike right next door had a nice white blanket and was closed. Busy day up there, the lot across the street looked pretty full by 11. Occasional 2 minute line at Zoomer and Peabody but nothing much. In the end I pretty much lapped Zoomer all day... so nice over there. Headed out at 2 when my legs couldn't take the natural stuff anymore and didn't feel like pulling out my ice skates to ski Peabody.
Heading to Burke for a couple hours tomorrow... Willoughby, Warrens, and Bear Den are open.
