Resort or Ski Area: Cannon

Conditions: Powder, some widswept ice up top, clouded in up top and wicked windy

Trip Report: First trip of the season!!! What a day. Got in 6 hours of skiing. Never took the tram. Loved the superquad at the Peabody base area. Did some of the other lifts, buut that superquad got you way up the mountain and seldom had a line, and when it did, it moved right along.

They were blowing snow at the top of the steeps on the 93 side of Cannon. I did take Paules folley. That side was bumped up and steep. Nice soft bumps, with grass between the bumps.

As the day wore on, the upper elevations bared ice as the snow got scraped down. The bumps revealed lots of grass between them. I can't believe I am saying this, with the amount of snow we've alreay had: More snow base would be real nice!

Nice first day on (new Volkl AC3) skiis. They handled a bit different than what we had before (K-2 fours). Took a few runs to get used to them, then cut em loose.

Base lodge seemed roomy enough for the amount of skiiers there. I have certainly been to more crowded base lodges.

All in all, this seemed a nice mountain, with steeper trails than we are used to, but there are many trails right up our alley also. The clouds socking us in were a bit of a bummer, and we effectively skiied about half the mountain. Good fun!!!!

LOL, I hate when that happens! This trip report should've been uphillklimber. I was logged on and he did the TR under me!

I must say that I agree with him though. Cannon was alright for what we got a chance to ride, a bit windy at the top.

I was there too. We skied the front runs (Rocket, Zoomer, Paulie's) but I here Avalanche was quite nice, bummer I missed it. The Lakeview Glade was nice, just a few stumps; hey, it's New England.

Lower Hard Scrabble was wonderful. Sure, there was some grass between the soft snow, but I can deal with that.

I stayed low as well. The last run of the day on the HSQ it stopped just as it crested the ridge, right in the teeth of the wind. Only 2-3 mintues, but it felt like much longer.
