Date(s) Skied: Saturday 3/5/11

Resort or Ski Area: Cannon, NH

Conditions: 20s, Fog, 50+ MPH winds up top, 30s, Drizzle, 30+ MPH winds at the bottom, Variable

Trip Report:

Got up there a little before 11 and walked to the lodge in a whipping wind. Profile and Mittersill were both closed, but the tram was open. First ride up Peabody resulted in goggles frozen solid due to freezing fog so thick that you couldn't see the chair in front of you. Headed down By-Pass which was blown off right to the ice base, then hooked down Avalanche which was pretty good up top, then to Banshee Glade which was alright... good snow but lots of bumps.

Took a wild ride up the tram (almost hit the 3rd tower) and went down Vista looking for Kinsman, which ended up being unexpectedly closed. Kept going and repeated the first run. Ended up eating lunch at the summit as well as a trip out to the deck to play MWO reporter for a minute lol.

Headed down Taft which was very fast with the little traffic it saw as well as the wind at your back. Also refrozen goggles. Took Hardscrabble to Mushroom which was pretty good (though really short). The base was warm enough to melt the frozen goggles.

Headed up Peabody which was hell after about the unload for the triple. Took Gremlin which was a sheet down to Rocket which was also a sheet. Lakeview Glades was up next which was full of bumps due to its usual high traffic. Bumps were weird due to any snow being very manky, plus scraped out troughs, so lots of speed variances.

Took a run down Zoomer liftline which had similar bumps. Was soaked at that point which all the drizzle, so that was it for me other than a couple runs of screwing around on Huckerbrook.

I'll be at Burke Tuesday... we'll see how much we get out of the storm Sunday night, looking like 6-12".

You should have gone to Burke today. No rain until 1:45. The worst thing I had to deal with was sticky snow.
