Daughter did the real Tuckerbrook this afternoon, said it was excellent but of course you either need to thumb back or stage a car.

Heard DJs was scrapped and lousy. Everything I skied on the upper mountain was excellent. Never seen so many people on the saddle, mountain was relatively busy for a Monday. No feedback on mittersill woods but lift line was fun.
You can cut back into the mittersill village from tuckerbrook no need to thumb or stage a car. Short walk back to the lift.

The cutoff to mittersill has a different name that I don't remember. The full Tuckerbrook dumps you out on wells.

Fun day but they really must've had some heavy traffic yesterday, a lot more hardpack and ice popping up from underneath the remaining chowder than I anticipated.

ROTD was Banshee. I'm not sure if I've ever skied it before for whatever reason. But when I was hoofing it back from Kinsman, I saw two people coming down hooting and hollering and decided I had to check it out. Loaded with tons of powder and no hardpack anywhere. I know its short but it's worth checking out. Repeated many times. Other stuff off Zoomer like Lakeview Glade and Zoomer Liftline really not all that fun, very slick under foot. Actually thought Bypass had better snow than a lot of the nats which is very rare.

Kinsman not really worth it. Top half is good. Bottom half needs more coverage. Even at 9 degrees I was sweating my ass off getting back to Zoomer.

Only skied one Upper glade (Animal) which was great at the top but developed slick spots further down. Unfortunately this super light blower probably wasn't able to meld to the hardpack at all and the traffic yesterday blew it all off. Not to say it sucks, it's still very good. But need a warmer snowstorm with good snow to really improve the base conditions. Snow is very deep though, should be a great spring this year.

Mittersill more of the same. Some pockets of powder, some areas of hardpack and ice. Huge whales on Baron's, had to have been 20 feet high. I like how a good chunk of that area still has no trail signs and while it's not quite the "backcountry" experience it used to be, it still an awesome area to explore.

Good to be back! In a state with mostly mundane mountains, Cannon really sticks its head out above the others. Hopefully will get my second Indy day sometime closer to spring.

Wow sounds like it was worse than before the storm. I was there Wednesday and no ice nor hard pack anywhere.

Storms bring traffic. And this one was 100% blower powder so doesn't really stand up to the traffic all that well.

Surprisingly almost no wind out there today so still quite a bit of untracked to be found if you check the far corners...

Zand has high standards. I thought today was spectacular, better than Monday. Texted my buddy one of the better Eastern days in many years.

I think I spent too much time at Stowe last Jan/Feb with a perfect soft base underneath seemingly daily refreshes 😆

Barons may melt out in July if they keep blowing.

An arbitrary date re: electric rate matters less than the cash available to pay for staffing and utilities. We're taking it a day at a time, including with where we go next on Cannon. Stay tuned.

Paulie's pipe blew in 2023. Set for replacement near-term. All pumps back online.
The Cannon story, pipe, piece of pipe!, has been out 3 seasons and no efforts made to fix it, the lift terminals look terrible, paint is cheap. At least no embarrassing lift failures this season due to deferred maintenance (so far).....The ski club is eventually going to put in their own lift and snowmaking at Mittersill....Since I'm going full send, how about that Tram plan? What is the target date for completion, where's the money? .......all said see you guys in the morning to rip it up, as much as the state of NH tries to kill Cannon it survives somehow.

nice rant

the club has no plans to install a new lift, there is a plan to install a midstation on the t bar, hopefully this summer
the club has a long term objective for significant snowmaking investment, I have no idea why any eastern skier would oppose snowmaking investment
there have been several evacs in NH this year, none at cannon
you are correct, there is paint needed everywhere, including the lift terminals
i like paulies natural, you have plenty of hardpack to enjoy on avy and zoomer if that is your thing
JCW provided an update on the tram several posts back, this is new hampshire not new york, every dollar is scrutinized, you are free to move to lake placid and ski on the eternal benevolence of the tax payer

the mountain is not perfect but it is in the right hands

my wish list: snowmaking on lower hard and a late closing, barons is DEEP, first weekend of may on barons with food trucks at mittersill would be badass

Lots of snowmaking on mittersill but no mention of skylight, lower hard, turnpikes, blue ball. Pipe problems like paulies ? Then the lifts stop turning at mittersill last couple weeks of the season. But NY stae taxpayers built a new stadium for the B Bills.

Cannon is the same as it ever was love it or not. I personally love it.

Its not like 30 or 40 years ago the place was firing on all cylinders and now its falling apart. Get a grip or go to bretton woods or loon of you want top notch infrastructure.

Theres always gonna be a long list of stuff that needs upgrading. Lots of difficult decisions and prioritizing. Its never gonna happen at the speed you want it that's the tradeoff to being a state run place and im personally ok with that.

Old adage: Capital structure and customer experience are often correlated.

To me, it's why when Cannon delivers a great experience -- particularly in indicators over which we have control (e.g. grooming, lessons, value, employee service, etc) -- it's even more a credit to the incredibly talented people who work here. Many could make more money elsewhere.

We're primarily a mission-driven organization. It's inspiring, (at times) frustrating, special. Very unique.

Have had some type of pass at Cannon for 22 + years and it getting better every year in spite of everything. Having worked in goverment many years dealing with it alone is a challange.

I wouldn’t want my state to build a sports stadium for billion dollar owners…
Similar I wouldn’t want them to build a gondola up to the ski areas in Utah for rich ski area owners to profit off.
NH built an interstate highway to their ski area, no need for a gondola. And the highway has 2 exits for the ski area. No plans for a liquor store at the tram base however. :)

One of those days that there’s just not enough time in the day to ski everything! That was fun

There was a road there already (rt 3/18). Actually I believe it went right through where the zoomer chair is to Franconia.

Also most of the funds to build it were federal.
