Trip Report: Jake and I hit up Catamount today. Not far enough west to get multiple feet of snow but they did OK. After being closed due to rain on Thursday they got what seemed to be another 8-10 inches on Friday.
We had not been skiing at Catamount before so we took a look at the map to get a feel for where to go. We started off on the western (NY side) of the mountain). Catamount didn't groom everything out. some of the wider trails were groomed on one side but not the other. The ungroomed stuff was a lot of fun. Snow was a bit heavy & wet but not unmanable.
Upper and Lower Glade were bumping up as the day went on. Catapult was a lot of fun, run of the day for both Jake and me. started setting up some nice bumps in the afternoon.
Catamount also had some low angle bumps (i think seeded) on Off Stage and those were a blast. Jake even commented about the great line thru them.
MA side of the mountain is tamer. mostly greens and a few blues. Jake and i checked it out for future visit with Megan.
Crowds weren't bad at all. I shot some video but haven't looked at it. if it turned out OK i'll put something up.
First impressions of the place - nice trails. Decent steep face on Catapult, nice bumps on several trails, fun terrain parks.
Less positive, place is a little run down. bathrooms stank, lodge was small and cramped.
the place reminded both Jake and me of Pat's Peak in NH. A litte smaller, not nearly as crowded but similar vibe and mountain.
They were pushing next year's season passes, listed at $279. Not a bad deal, IMHO, if you are local. Probably not worth the extra 45 minutes for me tho.
