Resort or Ski Area: Catamount

Conditions: Spring

Trip Report: Fun day at Catamount. I hadn't been to the place in 2 or 3 years...grew up night skiing there. Took advantage of the Mon.-Thurs. $20 lift ticket deal. Rode from 10:00 to 3:00. Temperature in the 50s, hazy sun, some clouds towards the end of the day. Basically did laps off the new quad alternating between Catapult and Upper Glade. I only got a couple smooth runs down Catapult, but was tearing up Upper Glade like crazy. Catapult was bumped, semi-frozen slush and Upper Glade was pure spring goodness. Lower Offstage had some awkward bumps but they were still fun. Towards the end of the day there was a mini-pond forming at the base so I practiced some pond-skimming, sweet! I took some pics of the catamount trees project...looks pretty wild. Some of the platforms looked over 60 feet off the ground. I haven't checked out the website yet.

Wow, thin cover! Trees project looks interesting. I haven't been to Catamount since my first season but it's always nice to hear reports from there. Thanks!

I haven't been there in years. Is Cakewalk still skiable? From a map it's called Expressway now it looks like... also I don't see Gunbarrel, it was on your right going up the summit lift. Would have come into Catapult from skier's left. Speaking of which, does anyone remember when Catapult opened? I seem to remember that area being partially cut even in the early 90's - but definitely not a trail yet.

Here's some discussion of the Gunbarrel trail: http://www.snowjournal.com/page.php?cid=topic14931
Not a definitive answer. Can you find your Cakewalk in my Google Earth view?

Looks like they just did some massive renaming - not sure why. Cakewalk is called Expressway now. Gunbarrel isn't on the map - but looks like you can still see it in the panoramic of the mountain.
