Date(s) Skied: 3/18/07
Resort or Ski Area: Catamount Ski Area
Conditions: A little LSGR in the morning, packed powder for the most part
Trip Report: On the recommendation of a bunch of guys on this forum I decided to take a day trip up to Catamount today. I passed the exit on the way there, but still managed to arrive by 10:30 after doing a bit of backtracking.
Not knowing what to expect (I don't do much skiing in MA/CT) and not hoping for much, I got out of my car and looked up at the mountain. Not too bad. I went to the register, bought my ticket ($50! Do they think this is Vermont or something?) and got on my first lift, the apparently new quad. On the way up, I saw that Catapult, the trademark run, was closed, but there were some nice bumps on Off-Stage.
I took my first run down Upper and Lower Alley Cat, realized I was about to miss the bumps, traversed a little, and made my way to Off-Stage. The snow on the Alley Cats was a bit grainy in places, but for the most part it was wonderful soft packed powder. I didn't know what to expect when I got to the bumps, and unfortunately they were quite hard.
I liked my first run, so I decided to stick to the quad for now, and end my runs with Off-Stage. Fortunately for me, my second run took me down Upper and Lower Glade, on which there were some moguls to the skiier's right. They were small and irregular, but I found them to be good practice, and they helped me enjoy the bumps on Off-Stage even more.
In any case, as the day wore on, the snow got softer, the moguls became better shaped, and I got more tired. When I came back from lunch, I found that the bumps lasted almost all the way down Glade, and the previously hard bumps on Off-Stage were now nice and soft.
I really enjoyed my time at Catamount, and would like to thank all of you who recommended that I go there. I had a great day!
