Think the person who wrote this article skis?

What are the actual cheapest ski towns? Rumford, Maine count?

Never really think about Rumford as a ski bum town, but many Sunday River employees probably do live there for it's affordability.

Barre, VT would be a similar type place.

Didn’t know Sioux Falls was a ski town 😂
And what a reason to move to Missouri

“Located on the outskirts of St. Louis, the Hidden Valley Ski Area offers the best skiing in Missouri. It's one of only two ski areas in the state.”

Wow this is so bad that it is not even funny. Casper, Wyoming?! Brigham City, Utah?! Middletown, Connnecticut?!

See, I could see Barre or Rumford on this list. Rumford has Black Mountain of Maine, Saddleback, and Sunday River all close by. But Middletown? St. Ann, Missouri as a ski town? Sioux Falls?

I had to google Brigham City to see how close it is to a ski area? 48 mins to Snowbasin, 56 mins to Powder Mtn, 66 mins to Beaver Mtn. Not bad, but agree it's kind of hard to think of it as a ski town. Seems more like a pit stop for gasoline when driving by the Great Salt Lake on Interstate 15? I have to give author of article some credit. She's thinking outside the box, way outside:) For most of her suggestions rental fee trumps vertical drop in a big way!

Well, isn’t the site url a clear indication? Rent.com!!!

It’s like complaining about auto week having a bad article on bicycle. It’s clearly intended for their reader who occasional indulge in these side activities. And it’s more as “entertainment reading” than actual guides.

I don't drive through gorham nh often but had to drive from SR to Lincoln a few weeks back to pickup some gear. Gorham felt like a town on the rise, almost like dover nh a couple decades back. Real estate is still reasonably affordable, not a true ski town but close enough.

Yikes. I don't think the person who wrote this knows anything about skiing, ski resorts, or the places that were put on the list. Take Middletown as an example.

Middletown is not a "bedroom community" and it's "sunny riverfront parks" are five feet from a heavily trafficked stretch of highway. Powder Ridge is also much closer to Middletown than Southington is. I never, ever, EVER would think of Middletown as a "ski town" nor would anyone else on this board.

Good BC skiing in the area too. Probably one of the best places you could be in NE in regards to that...

Kinda

I've been spending 6-8 nights a year in Gorham since 2014. There's been significant growth with summer and off season tourism with the explosion of their ATV business, but overall the town is largely the same. The population is actually declining still. Less today than 2010 and less in 2010 than 2000.

I do enjoy the town though. I'd probably rather be there than on the Conway side of the notch. I think. Dining is still pretty limited and I could see myself potentially getting bored with it and not wanting to do the drive through Pinkham or over to Bethel just to grab dinner.
