Hi everyone! I am new to this site. I have a few questions, so please be patient with me. I would like to go to Fire Island in New York. I heard that it is a very nice place. So, if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated!

???????????????

Is there hiking on Fire Island? Does anyone do anything there other than sit on the beach and - um - try to find a partner?

Is this a real post or are you lost - ????? Perhaps you're into water skiing?

Yes this is real!

Yes it is a real posting. I heard that there is hiking & camping there. I just want to know what is the island about. A couple of people were talking about it. And I would like to know what is there.

Beach camping is about all you will find. Its full of boardwalks and sand. If you are looking for camping and hiking go north.

Is this from a guide on how to set up multiple fishing lines with outriggers? Looks like someone fishing in the Great Lakes for salmon.

Fire Island is quite nice and has great hiking. AMC even has a cabin there:

That being said, I'm not sure of your sexual orientation, or if your a guy or gal but cherry grove is famous for being an "open minded" area. (not that there's anything wrong with that) If that will make you uncomfortable, you may want to try a different part of the island. Remember that the ferry will stop running at night, so keep that in mind when your planning getting on and off the island. You will have a great time at Fire Island .... have a blast

Yeah....that MUST be it...

Got the trolling joke; was wondering if you might be a fisherman.

When I can, which is rather rare. Thought I smelled a little sarcasm there...

I'm also impressed by how you were able to identify the salmon rig by the pic.

Me? Sarcastic?

Yeah, I see the salmon crews out there on Lake Ontario and Lake George all the time...alot of technology and effort involved, seems like fishing with nuclear weapons to me.

I like stream fishing with a fly rod or ultralight.

Flys get me a bit frustrated.... :x

I've been more of a salt water guy. Rig it up, cruise along, crack a brew...

Although, DEFINATELY something to be said for hitching up the waders...

Super relaxing, little thinking involved, and you get to walk against the current and get a little exercise too.

I guess I better stop hijacking this thread now.

GREAT PLACE!

Besides the south shore ocean swimming & sunbathing, there is a nice wildlife sanctuary to check out as well as other things...walk in from the west parking area and you won't have to worry about the ferry...however you must enjoy walking...
