Closing Dates for Killington, Pico and Okemo

I'd like to squeeze in one more quick trip, but I can't seem to find anything definitive regarding closing dates. Also, I'm concerned that while some places are "open" late into the season, they run limited lifts and trails. My kids and I are beginners, so "open" for us translates into "open greens." Like with Pico today, the website shows that while they have all the trails open, lifts like the Little Pico are not, which makes me wonder how you'd get to some of those trails.

Any and all knowledge and advice would be appreciated.

Killington was May 6th at last conversation. That was from Spinmaster ( Tom H from K )who pops in sometimes here. Taht probably will be htree runs. Superstar, Skyelark and I forget. No beginner stuff that late. Dork or Anndy Zee probably could help more. Okemo will be mid to Aprilish

Pico under ASC ownership does not operate in April.

The announced closing date for Killington was May 15th. So far, there's been no sign of Killington building the base depths to operate that long. With the impending sale to SP Land, the American Skiing Company has no particular incentive to spend money piling up snow and could very well opt to suck every nickle of operating profit out of Killington and suspend snowmaking for the year. A May 6 closing date with 'walking required' wouldn't surprise me. Bear Mountain Mogul Challenge is incredibly early this year... March 31-April 1. There's a snowboard event at Bear the following weekend and that could very well be it for that part of the mountain.

Thanks. Sounds like I'd better hurry.
Are these places any more likely to be near-fully operating during Easter week (April 9-ish)? Thinking - school kids on vacation?

Last year, aside from those runs, the blue portion of Bittersweet was open. No beginner terrains at that time. Skied K until the last day of April then called it a season. I remember Pico closing in the middle of March last year.

You should hurry up and go skiing now with the best conditions of the season. Keep watching the weather and see if cold temps and snow predominate keep skiing.

Late season skiing isn't much fun for novices as most trails bump up quickly and skills ski bumps, to jump over mud patches and skim the odd puddle are required. Skiing corn snow is fun and takes strong ski skills to master. As ski areas close the remaining skiers get concentrated on the few remaining ski areas so trails bump quickly and often grooming at night isn't possible.

No...There is a 99% chance that Bear Mtn will close on April 8th (End of Spring Loaded), and Sunrise will close around then as well. Lower Skyeship will definitly be closed, and Upper Skyeship might be too. Rams Head will probably be closed as well.

Basically....after April 8th, the only areas that are open are: Snowdon, Glades, Canyon, K-Peak, and Superstar.

go to bretton woods. They blow deep snow and stay open late. Most of the mountain can be skied by a low intermediate on multiple bong hits.

Brettonwoods will definately be open late. They are trying to be the new Killington in that respect. If you don't need much of a resortish feel, Crotched were very aggressive about opening early, and may stay open late too....hmm... I wonder what this means for Mt Snow and Attitash?

I wonder too. Could Attitash and Mt Sneaux be revived into day trip destinations with fabulous snow making, night skiing and midnight madness? Mt Sneaux is close to urban markets and with the multiple base areas can really handle bus traffic. Maybe the days of the late May ski races down fountain mountain at Mt Sneaux will return!

Crotched has plenty of snow so coverage would not be a problem. Enough skier interest after the end of March...that may be a problem.

Aye. I'm holding off on a season pass decision for 2007-2008 until I find out whats going to happen with them. I'm hoping perhaps a multi-mountain season pass. If not, I'm probably going to be hitting up Pat's Peak for season pass next year.

Does that mean your're not going to renew at Crotched?? I am going with Crotched as my "southern" pass and the threedom for my "northern" ..maybe Pat's and BW for a midweek.
That's a lot of passes...how many times do you get out in a season?

BTW, Pats Peak is selling passes for next season now that include this month.
