Counting Chairs - Does anyone else ever do this?

Does anyone else here ever take notice of what number chair you're on to see how much more quickly you get down the mountain than your chair? Example - I was at Gore Mountain yesterday on the High Peaks Chair, on Chair #97. When I got back down, I was on Chair #69. I figured that if I wanted to get down more quickly than my previous run, I would need to get on Chair #40 or lower for my next ride up (I got #37.) It's not an obsessive/compulsive disorder or anything like that - it's just something I do occasionally, and I was wondering if anyone else does it too. The few times I do it is when I know I can ski right onto the lifts, as a line of people would screw up my chances of getting a lower-numbered chair. And I also get screwed up when I'm on a low-numbered chair one time, and then a high-numbered chair without knowing what the highest number chair is. Once again, I only do this rarely, as I'd rather just enjoy skiing than remembering numbers and doing math, but it is something I've done here and there.

I've sometimes noticed someone downloading as I'm on the lift and then passing them again before they get off ... seems weird

count your turns instead, I've done runs in the 470 range

my daughter gets a big kick out of chair lift and tower numbers. every chair we get on she'll announce the number and we have to discuss why THAT number is important. as we pass lift towers she'll say "oh here comes the bumpy one" or " here comes the noisy one". i ski @ a small place a lot and it isn't hard to beat the chair down. i chuckle when i pass the same liftie going back down twice

My 10-year old son can tell you exactly how many chairs and number of lifts towers are on each lift at Mount Snow. Of course, the #50 chair that Mount Snow painted gold a few years ago for their 50th anniversary, is a big, bit item.

We often race the lift down.

And of course me, I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

My 7 y.o. daughter is the same way noticing the chair numbers...wanting to be number one, wonders how many chairs are on each lift. Totally cute. We used to beat the chairs all the time....no unless I'm with her, I don't take much notice.

Must be a kid thing. My older daughter always takes note of the chair number.

Well I am not cute nor a kid but I count chairs to see how many are left until I get to the top. I also try to beat the chair down I rode up on. Lastly I like to know how many chairs are on the lift as well. My wife does say I am one of her kids.

My kids do this like they are the second coming of Rain Man (of course, since it is MY kids, this skill doesn't transfer to something profitable like counting cards - not that I've d dressed them up as midgets and snuck them into Foxwoods to really find out).

They remember, all day, the number of each chair they have taken up on each lift.

I noticed the chairs are all sequential at some ski areas, and totally random at others, or largely sequential with the occasional odd numbered chair thrown in... weird
