Crowds this past weekend

Saturday at Sunday River was amazingly busy.

Busiest I've seen it all year.

We were able to avoid the lines pretty good all day though, never waited more than 5/6 mins... Most of the time practically skiing on at lifts like Aurora, White Heat, Tempest, Locke, Spruce, and North Peak... Barker was a zoo at 8:30AM, and so I avoided it like the plague... South Ridge was also quite the zoo.

I've got a pic of an AMAZING amount of skis laid out on the snow at South Ridge... never seen that many before. (I'll try to put it up later)

Sad to hear that it was fairly crowd-less at Loon on Sunday. I was planning to head there Sunday, but car trouble prevented that. :-(

Sorry you missed it. But the conditions are so good, that I have no doubt there'll be lots more fun Sundays. (We love Sundays at Loon...and the occasional one at SR. ; )

obviously no one told anyone at Windham about the bad economy..in my 30yrs of skiing i've never seen such crowds....

I've found the triple chair a really good option when it's like that.

was very crowded at Windham on sunday.

they were having races and maybe the 29.95$ tickets from Potter Bros could have contributed.

also, light snow all day on top of whatever fell during the week. didn;t help the scraped off ice/skied off conditions due to the high traffic though.

big lines at both quad chairs so single line was the way to go. nor as much on the triple or the wheelchair double.

It's funny how psychological it is for many folks.
I remember when I used to work at the mountain, I'd know it would be a packed weekend if it snowed down in Boston or New York City, even if it hadnt snowed in Vermont.
The exact opposite happens too. A few years I recall the snow in Vermont was great, but it hadnt snowed much (or at all) down South, and the slopes werent really crowded at all.

Perfect example was this weekend. In CT, I cleared 14" of snow off the driveway Thursday. They got 4...maybe 5" in VT from the same storm.

Friday at Jiminy was way more crowded than a normal Friday. Went into the lodge for dinner around 7 for a quick bite and 90% of all the tables were full. Got out of work around 8:30 and there were 16 buses sitting in the lot waiting.
Saturday I got to the mtn. around 7:30 to prep the shop, and the main lots were almost full already, almost as bad on Sunday as well.

Makes for a more crowded mtn. but is great for the businesses that depend on the skiers for there livelihood.

Looks like a lot of people were just standing around shooting the breeze or sitting in the lodge (based on the number of skis not in use) rather than actually skiing. Hense the surprisingly short lift wait.

Windham base lifts were 10-15, the G chair was 25min,,,,crowds thinned a bit after 2...

Ragged on Sunday loaded up the auxiliary lots, but the crowd was spread over both peaks and the learning area, so it didn't appear too bad. The crowd was late arriving too. Didn't really start to pile up until after 10:30.

Of course, then the 6 pack went down for 2 hours (part broke and they replaced it - started up later) and everyone went to lunch or went over to Spear. Then the lines got long.

Cannon had good sized lines at Peabody and Profile for a while Saturday, even the tram was a 3-cycle wait at times. Burke had a 2-3 minute line at 3 PM Sunday... bet it was busier Saturday.

Curious how long the lift wait time was at Camelback on Saturday and Blue Mountain on Sunday?

Camelback was a zoo after 11 Sat. I usually negotiate the crowds quite well but even I gave up at 1 and they were still lined up for tickets. The wait for the fixed grip chairs wasn't bad but it was just sea of humanity on certain trails and hard to get to places I wanted to ski (say Rocket). Blue likewise on Sunday. The lines were way out past the corrals and the singles lines were up the hill. Being lucky enough to have skied both mountains at off peak times just this past week and really enjoying both it gets tough to want to fight the crowds too much.

If you think that was bad, you should have seen the lodge. Wall-to-wall people! They had several buses there that day. Whatever you do at Sunday River, avoid South Ridge and Barker. The other peaks are virtually ski on even on a crowded Saturday.

Was at Attitash on Saturday. When I got to the parking lot later than usual at 10:30, I thought the place was going to be packed due to the number of vehicles but we managed to avoid crowds all day.

This sounds horrendous. I've successfully managed to ski ex-holidays and weekends thus far in my life, but reality is catching up to me. I dont think I could justify waiting in a 20 minute Poconos line for 700 feet of vert, but I guess I may have to. But the way people are making it sound here makes it sound like pain rather than pleasure. And that picture makes me want to cry.

saturday was the most crowded i'd seen killington this season but if you avoided the hsq's and skied lifts like the south ridge & canyon you skied right on. the skye peak quad had people spilling out of the corral but the bear quad right next to it, was virtually ski on. go figure ...

Hunter was busy on the main lift(6Pack) and empty on the West Side. Y lift was ski on - Z had a 5 minute wait.

I was there Sunday and experienced the same, though a bit shorter waits. Z was pretty much a 3-4 chair wait from 10-1 and Y was ski on. Line disappeared on the 6 pack just before 3 andI was able to get some quick laps in. Sundays seem to be a bit lighter than Saturdays there.

A nice steady, but light snow all day helped freshen the area up even though it didn't look like much. I saw a couple of skiers poaching Westway. Skiers left looked to have pretty decent cover and some fluff, but I hate hitting rocks so I wussed out

Went to Plattekill Friday/Saturday. Friday was heaven...no crowds, snow all day. Saturday was crowded...as crowded as Platty gets. What a couple of great ski days with the family!
