WOW! Thats good to know.
Actually ALL were taken on the ski area slides. Just didn't use the lifts.

Wow, I suck. So were they technically open then? I really need to get to Whiteface someday.

I come out with some random stat, that I pretty much just made up at the moment of the post, and it gets proved wrong in the next post.

I rule. Hey atleast it took two posts this time.

Riv, considering you havent done any BC in the ADK's you cant really comment on quality. I will give you that most are a trek to get to, but frankly, that just leaves better snow for the ones who make the effort.
adiron, you mistook my statement. in NO way was i suggesting that the dacks are inferior quality. i was just arugeing that suggesting that the dacks are better than the whites based on quality alone is not a good agruement. but i disagree on the better snow... in many cases, the slides are very avi prone so are pretty much not skiable when the snow is the best. same as the whites. snow quality is generally less an issue of how many people are skiing it but rather weather, time of day, etc. when it comes to avi prone areas.

Lots of passion and mostly....

....well reasoned arguments. But a few folks seem to be just a wee bit prickly about playing well with others. I am searching underneath the cushions of my college sofa (now banished to the basement workout room) for any stray Qualuudes...as there's a couple of dudes who could seemingly benefit from tossing a few stale "Disco Biscuits" down the hatch, preferrably with an alco-chaser of some sort.

Anyways, I'm tossing out "Foment" as today's "SAT/Word of the day". In the meantime, I'm gonna sit back and watch the fireworks fly. Oh, lookee here....a disco biscuit or two....hmmmmm....gulp....

P.S.
I too wondered about Avalanche issues on slides....seem to recall an event or two in the last decade either with skiers or winter/ice/mixed climbers. Great slides photos, posted, btw. David Goodman's book has alot of info. Interesting he bundled VT & NY together.

fwiw, i have done a fair amount of bc and tons of resort skiing in the whites, but this year, i am going to the greens. Its the draw of higher average annual snow totals. Looking forward to doing some bc in the greens. BC in the whites has lots to offer, steep remote gullies to mellow hardwood tree skiing. It's just that i want the most pow i can get and the greens should give me the more then the whites can.
