My longest day trips are 2 hours to Sugarloaf and 2hrs 10min to Saddleback. Wouldn't want to do much longer than that. Its a wash however because we can drop all of our stuff off right at the lodge at Saddleback and parking is close... avoiding the Sugarloaf shuttle makes it a wash between the two.

After Monday's 4 hour trip, I think that Loaf is best for spring skiing. You can park right up front, and even have the shuttle waiting at your car, since they've nothing else to do. Yeah, we miss the powder days, but you gotta compromise on something. Tickets are a lot cheaper, and the skiing is wall to wall if you pick your (thaw) days right. It was said before and I'll support it, driving on longer days on DST schedule is much more tolerable when the sun is up by 6am and you are still seeing the last vestige of daylight at 7pm in April.

Having said all that, 4 hours each way, same day was a bit much. I'll do the loaf again, but I'll find someplace cheap to stay next time.

I like staying in hotels..nothing better than relaxing somewhere near the mountain after a day of skiing and with this recession..lodging prices are wicked cheap..two long drives in one day is so rough..

Not necessary! If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way. Pool up with a group, cram 4 of you in a car, chip in 10bucks for gas and get a cheap ticket(we've been posting bargains and freebies all season), you can get there. I did that in the lean years of my ski life and always got what I wanted.
