I hope more resorts step up and extend hour this year since Daylight Saving time change is now happening during ski season.

Bully to Magic for extending hours!

"Please Note: Due to the new Daylight Savings Time laws Magic Mountain will be changing weekend operating hours to
9am to 5pm on weekends beginning Saturday, March 20, 2010 for the remainder of the season."

+1!

Losing that hour of warm sun in your face skiing at the end of the day sucks... Mainly talking about mid - late april.

Sugarbush did adjust their hours last spring...pushing things back one hour. I liked it. It did take some effort to get them to make the change.

Skied Magic the last weekend they were open last season. It sure was nice skiing in sunshine until 5pm that day! Besides who wants to ski before 10 am in the spring time anyway? I'd even be ok with mountains opening at 10 am and closing at 5 pm. Same amount of hours of pay for the workers!

+1 on this topic for sure! especially if it is true spring conditions and the hill needs to soften.

This just makes sense.

For the life of me, I've never understood why ski areas dont adjust hours accordingly.

Hunter has done it in the past, however, no announcement at this time. They will extend the deck & bar hours though I would imagine.

Magic has consistently been doing this for years. It's one of the reasons I always respected that ski area. Nothing like skiing in the sunshine. That 4pm to 5pm slot EDT is a great time on the slopes -- lots of light and uncrowded. Actually, the biggest benefit of DST is in the backcountry. That additional hour of daylight is a lifesaver sometimes. You can push back your turn-around time and not be worried that it's 6pm and you're still walking back to your car.

Actually I'll take the other side here. The last few days I skied this week in the warm temps the snow turned to peanut butter. The morning turns were much better imo.I also think it does more damage as in melting to the snow smearing around that slop.

I don't understand this either.Clock change is a lifesaver?First of all, last I checked we don't have an "extra" hour of daylight. If your earning your turns what difference does a clock change make?Just go the same relative time you went last week.

^ I'll put it this way: if yesterday sunset was at 5, with DST today, it's now 6. My turnaround time is 3 pm. So, if I'm hiking back down the mountain, I have an extra hour of daylight to work with just in case I get lost or there's a mishap on the trail. That extra hour when I don't have to break out the headlamp is a good thing in my book.

Regarding the snow turning to mush, yeah, I agree. However, when the temps are not so warm and the snow preserves well, it can still be awesome corn after 4. And, if the snow turns to mush, I recommend fat skis. They make a difference.

.

As the majority of my sking is in March, I agree with this. First chair until noon or 1 is often about all you can hope for. I'll be sking next week (as I have for years) and am happy to get to 1pm, and don't expect to see 2pm.

Yes, there are mountains that face a different way. But, ski, sun, and deck beverages are not a bad thing !
