I really enjoy assembly of dust. they opened for Rat dog last fall in boston. They were hot. Worth while any time you can get to see them.

Rat Dog is coming back for a few more shows know also.... looks like CT and Worcester for me. Looks like I'll have a full November. DeadheadSkier I was in Phili for the that Visions..... Saw the 1st Unbroken Chain there.

As inspiring as the Unbroken Chain was, the Visions was the highlight of the weekend for me. I had not seen the boys since doing both the Garden and MSG runs of the fall. I thought Jerry's playing was the best I had seen since Spring tour 90 - he just seemed vibrant and dare I say 'healthy'. He obviously had a rough winter as he certainly didn't have the same gusto in Philly, but he had moments. Visions was one of them. I also really enjoyed the West LA from that show.

Actually.. The unbroken chain was nice to see it needed some help though. Most folks felt Jerry was having a tough time. I had a greatime the years I got see the full band. I still enjoy going to shows. The scene is mellow and small these days. I much prefer what Phil brings to the table than anything else being done currently.

The Quintet refers to Phil, Warren Haynes, Rob Baracco, Jim Herring and jumping John molo. That was/is IMO the best after Jerry music to date. Rumors are maybe that group of members getting toegether again next year.
Phil and freinds these days has had a cast of rotating members. The shows I'm seeing has Mookie Siegel, John Molo, Barry Sless,Jimmy Herring, and Phil.

Some of those PLQ shows at the Beacon in NYC.. Were just outstanding!! Really cool and trippy.. Very experimental.. Exactly what drove me the Grateful Deads music...

Loved the way they'd always start the show with some wild ass jam that eventually went into a song..

I saw Phil with Warren and Jimmy and thought it was fantastic.

The lineup I saw with Derreck Trucks about four years ago was incredible too.

I'm not sure how I feel about the choice of Chris Robinson. I wonder if it means an obligatory Hard to Handle every night  :-?

The first Other Ones lineup with Kimock and Karan was also very good - Great Woods show rocked, very powerful.

Based on your recommendation, I just purchased Ornette's "Shape of Jazz to Come" and let Amazon talk me into also buying "Ah-Hum" by Charlie Mingus and "Saxophone Colossus" by Sonny Rollins.

Hot of the presses!!! I picked up a copy today...
It sounds great and the performance is A+!!!

Unearthing Unknown Monk, Coltrane Recording

"Appelbaum, a jazz specialist at the Library of Congress, got excited at the prospect of finding unpublished materials by the jazz master Thelonious Monk. Then he heard another distinctive sound. "I recognized the tenor saxophone of John Coltrane and my heart started to race," Appelbaum says."
