Breckenridge, this past Feburary. I like to ski close to the edge here in the east (that's where the pow(?) is). Forgot and tried the same out there while skiing with my daughter, hit the edge...........two feet of SOFT pow! Skis released like right now! Head over heels (I think three times) right into the woods, stopped when BOTH my feet softly impacted a tree! During those three somersalts I was waiting for the HARD impact. Laid there thanking God for sparing me!:snow:

Lech Austria in '08. We had great spring conditions all week then this storm rolled in and dumped for a few days.

Near the end of the day "last run" two of us decided to ski a marked route back to town. We were the only tracks, got into a gully with very flat light but then noticed the fracture lines. I was tele skiing and fell head first and started a little micro-slide and got slighty covered with snow. Made a long traverse into some scrub pine and climbed out on the otherside. For about 15 minutes I thought the gig was up. The apres beers tasted very good once we made it into town.

My close call came after a night of frolicing on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace in a swiss chalet with a russian gal that seduced me the previous evening. My boss alerted me that she was a KGB agent, so I bolted out the door, and skied down the side of a swiss alp with a dozen KGB thugs shooting automatic weapons at me. Fortunately, I picked off a few of them with my pole guns before I lept off a 5000 ft drop, it was my only exit. My Union Jack parachute came in handy as I sailed to the bottom of the valley where I had left my Aston Martin parked the night before. Other than that, I did a face plant in 4' of powder and thought I was gonna suffocate with snow jammed up my nostrils and in my mouth. :)

Staring at the little cliff signs at Squaw was scary...slowly backing away....
Found myself on a very narrow cat track out in to a bowl at Snowbird...then I'm walking across rocks with a nice drop next to me...full of rocks.
Skied right off the side of the run at the top of Snowbird in a total whiteout. Managed to cling to the side and even found my ski stuck into the side. Climbed out of that one...and sat down a bit.
Lots of fun out west.

Got caught in a small avi catskiing in British Columbia 4 years ago.Luckily only got buried to my armpits and I ended upright.Never could find my poles and it took a half hour with 14 of us to find one of my skis.I never look at big exposures the same way as I used to.

Sometimes I wish I would die while skiing. As in, just after some great turns I think, TAKE ME NOW! IT WON"T GET ANY BETTER THEN THAT! So far no dice.

every time you have a rollover into something steep. especially last year the KW. hit an ice patch and was on my heelside when i sould have been on my toeside. not a good feeling ahving to do a jumpturn when your off balance like that. when i got down to the apron i sit down till my legs stoped shakeing. the rest of the day was grommers on my carving board.

I've thought I might blow a valve or suffocate a few times but other then that...

I was skiing at Val d'Isre by myself and it was dumping so hard that almost the entire area was shut down except for the funicular down at La Daille (so aptley named for me that day). Near the bottom I was mining a little between pistes when all of a sudden a hole opened in front of me. I lunged for the far side digging my hands and skies into the snow so I wouldn't fall in. Below me I heard and then saw vehicular traffic. It was a vent for the auto tunnel!!! No signs, or fence, or even a grate!! And I was like 20 or 30 feet above the road with traffic going. I slowly worked my way out, all the while fearing the sides were going to cave in and I would end up in a broken pile on the road and get run over to boot.

I've saved people twice too, but that's their story.

Never thought I might die skiing but I have a few times while flying, not the airliners but in private planes. Students try to kill you sometimes when you are a flight instructor.

If yes, when and where and what happened to get you out of the situation?

Sure, I stopped, looked up, and about 500" up the trail I saw my GF flailing on the ground, having totally wiped out. Getting out of it required perfuse apologies for not paying attention to how far behind me she was, and of course, flowers...

I have the same dream too. But I always have my VW waiting for me, it starts everytime!!

The thought has never crossed my mind while doing, or immediately after a activity. Guess I dont look at life that way.

I was only like 7 or 8 years old when this happened, but I still remember it clearly. I was skiing with my parents at sunday river and we got on lift 10 and I when loading the lift I sat down a little early, well anyways 10 feet later after we lifted out of the bottom terminal before we put the bar down I adjusted my poles and slipped, but I was able to grab the back of the chair and my parents were able to pull me back up.
