Jet Blue and Delta for sure. Southwest might also have a direct flight. Google SLC airport and then check the route maps for each airline that services the city (I think there are 13). While direct flights are most convenient, they are not necessarily the cheapest. It depends upon who is running a "sale" at this time. In any case, a low fare may not be the cheapest if you are charged extra for baggage. Some are now charging for ski bags and don't let you pack your clothes around the skis! It might be smartest to bring your boots in your carry-on, and then rent appropriate skis when you get here. Check on rental prices by logging in to the various rental places (including the ones at each resort that you are planning to visit). You won't incur the extra baggage charges, and you will get skis that are appropriate to local conditions. Kingslug will be flying back east tomorrow, so you might PM him for suggestions in this regard since he did not bring his skis at my recommendation, and was very pleased with the ones that he has been renting.

Delta flies direct out of JFK. There is a very early am flight that gets you to SLC by around 10am. If you do that check the free ski day of arrival deals at park city.

Have fun!

If you're bringing skis with you, in all seriousness look into shipping them a few days ahead of time via FedEx. Often the same basic price as many of the baggage surcharges you may encounter and you DON'T have to deal with schlepping them to/from the airport!

Just in case you are confused about it (because I was) the extra charges of weight and height does not apply to the ski bag. But if you have to check a bag because of your ski bag, then you would have to pay (unless you have elite status). I'd do a little bit of research before I ship skis.

ALso, depends on how many days you are going for. For just a few days, I'd probably just rent (for $30, there are daily unlimited demo rentals at Alta). For longer trips, I'd bring my skis or ship them depending on fees.

Last March, ground shipping via DHL(took 4 days) from NE CT to Park City ran me $55 for a 40 odd pound ski bag loaded with skis for me, my wife and my daughter.

On the trip back home, 3 Day shipping via FedEx from the base lodge @ Deer Valley back to my house for the same gear ran me basically $65.

If you're traveling with multiple young people in your party and/or a bunch of luggage the shiiping option can be a great thing. Plus, it's REAL nice having an online tracking number so that you actually know where the bag with your ski gear is while in transit!

The term you guys need to be using is NON-STOP. A "direct" flight can stop a few times along the way.

Delta defines ski equipment so a ski bag with one pair of skis and one pair of poles; and a boot bag containing ski boots; counts as one bag. This year, I wouldn't load up a double ski bag with 2 pairs of skis and some clothing. If you have the time, the US Mail is very reasonable. FEDEX ground or UPS ground will be more.

If you take an early AM flight, it makes sense to ship your skis and bulky clothing in a double ski bag. If you carry on your boots in a backpack boot bag and your other stuff in a roll-aboard, you can get yourself up on the hill by late-morning. Even better, places like Deer Valet will give you a comp ticket if you show them a boarding pass for that day. (At least I think they still have that deal) You can ship directly to the Snow Park Lodge at Deer Valley, too.

Direct flights to any ski airport

I have searched high and low and from the nyc area the only direct flights I have found are

JFK-Jetblue-they have flights that leave late at night thursday or friday-I think 8:00 pm, return on the redeye monday or tuesday night and get back in the next morning. Price wise, they seem to break up th ecost depending on day of travel. the flights out to SLC hover around 99$ to 228$. the flights back to NYC seem to be arund 99$ to

I think Delta has a flight out of JFK that leaves around 5:30 pm but it seems to be very expensive.

EWR(Newark)-Delta-they have the early morning 7:00am flight that gets in 10:30 SLC time. For return trip they have a flight that leaves about 4:30-5:00 pm that will get you back at 11:00 pm NY time. this package can be had for as low as 320$ round trip if you book a month or 2 in advance.

anyone else got any other methods to SLC or any other ski airport for that matter? I only want direct flights because I like to travel as hassle free as possible.

This winter the airfares are much cheaper than they've been to go to Utah.

I've found lots of good flights on Delta out of JFK for 258+tax. Probably be around 3 bills total. Last winter it was 4 easy.

Also, the only downside that I've found about Delta out of JFK is that if you have checked luggage, it takes forever to get it back at JFK once you land.

I was actually booked to go out to Utah tomorrow. Not sure if this was wise..but I was following the weather and they've had a big high out there for the last few days and it ain't moving next week. Now, I like skiing in soft 40 degree snow as much as the rest of us....but I was hoping and aiming for some fresh. So I pushed it back to the last week in February.

I went through travelocity and found good airfare on Delta. Trying to fly in and ski the same day though can be a stretch although possible. It's just not as fast as they say. You might get 2 hours ski time and you'll be running to get it. I did it last year. And remember...when you try to do that you'll be going from close to sea level to 10500 feet in one shot....no aclimation time at all. Better to fly in and ski the next day, gives you some time to hydrate.

While I'm not headed to SLC, or flying direct, I fell the need to chime in here.

I'd rather fly direct myself but being this far from the city, Islip becomes actually more convenient for me. And the best rate I could find was on Southwest.com (less than 100$per. person each way) I usually use Orbitz or something like that but w/ all the logistics involved w/ my situation I've chosen to go w/ the transfer(s)_
