What is the best way to get from Jeffersonville (Smuggs Inn) to Jay Peak, i.e, are some of the rural routes hard to travel?

All the state roads are generally fine if you are somewhat skilled at winter driving and have appropriate wheels. 109/118/242 is a fine route. If its snowy and you are not comfortable with snowpacked roads or have a flatlandermobile, go out to 100 to 242.

Thanks Bill.....exactally what I was looking for, I have snows w/studs, so 109/118/242 looks good for me. Just hope the crust goes away some from the rains!

If you or anyone you left behind likes maple sugar or candy, head over to http://www.vermontmapleoutlet.com/ on Rte. 15 in Jeffersonville. Best prices I have seen and a huge selection. Stuff is really fresh. Downside is that they are only open business hours, so call ahead.

Leaving Nashua soon for Smuggs Inn, stopping in Stowe for a bit then will have to stop at the maple outlet...looks good!

Enjoy, you've got a good travel day. Looks like they are picking up a few inches every day. Stowe reports packed powder, so I think you've got the best destination of the week!

Skied Smuggs on Thursday, was so so, then did Jay on Friday, was awesome, awesome, awesome! Skied the woods all day :snow:, was so much fun after the 7 inches they got overnight. Was my 1st time to both places, doubt I'll be back to Smuggs sorry to say.

BTW hit the VermontSyrupOutlet in jeffersonville, good deals in there! And the nice lady working went to Stowe last night for the Warren Miller show and gave my son the magazine that they handed out, he was thrilled.

Next Vt run will be Feb school break, staying in Stowe, and might do a one day run to Jay depending on if they get some powder night before!

All and all can't complain with the early snow we all have this year, hope it holds!!

2 older males. one of them is me, we never really have cared for smuggs. Done this 4x now. Once we crossed over the top of Madonna before the blockade. We daytrip and feel like outcasts. It also seemed like they don't take care of their trails. I can never square this against others opinions, even after I take the kids out of the equation.

My kids and I actually enjoyed the fact that smuggs didn't do much grooming. My wife liked Stowe for the fact that the trails for the most part were groomed FLAT. Bolton Valley on the other hand was a nightmare. Yesterday was loaded with beginers top to bottom. That and some extremley obnoxious people. I understand it's the busiest week of the year but still! My wife on several occasions had people come up behind her yelling look out because they could not turn or stop.

I'm really surprised to hear that about BV. It's typically a Burlington crowd, laid-back families. Maybe the word got out and it was invaded by aliens from Las Vegas.

Smuggs trails were a bit "crunchy" for lack of better words. A few ice chunks here and there. Biggest thing was just the layout of lifts and trails. Best thing at Smuggs was dinners at the "Three Mountain Lodge", highly recommend!

Jay, I only skied the glades from the top of the Tram or the Flyer. Well had to take the trail for a short bit, but then trees all the way. And, there was plenty of untracked lines to make. BTW, loved the Poutine at Jay :flag:

And it's only December!!

I like to go to BV midweek for a change from my typical LP/MRG/ME rotation. They have a Vermonter Day that's a great deal and good childcare that lets my wife and I ski together. But the way most of their lifts are all bunched together at the bottom and the amount of beginner terrain, I imagine it gets nuts during peak days.
