I do not "Ski the Trees" but I do ski the snow between them.
I spent three hrs a day one summer with a chain saw and other cutting tools clearing saplings in the woods over at HV.
Then they passed the "New Jersey Skylands act" and I became a scoff law!

I skied two tree lines last year (my first full season skiing), both were flat short stretches right next to a trail.

This year I may ski them more once I get more confident in my skills... we'll see.

I ski the trees, slowly improving in confidence, comfortable in intermediate/single diamond glades currently. As for maintaining them, I don't maintain anything at the mountains, but I have a couple runs around me that I maintain for when we actually get natural snow. Problem is, they're extremely steep, so it's only once every year or two I get to ski them...

An interesting site about sustainable cutting and a bunch of other stuff. I have cut a few things, and done a little work at Mansfield. I don't feel great about cutting at the ski area because there is so much impact allready, but I ski the crap out of what exsists so I feel like I do need to put in. Keeping exsisting line open and safe is about all I'll do at areas that have seen alot of work. Probably only logged 10 days in my life making ski lines. Prolly spent between 1-200 days making or working on Bike trails so I kind of feel like I put in in other areas.. I've also spent a good deal of time cleaning rivers out and keeping them safe....Seems like almost every viable area to ski I've ever visited in NVT has evidence of trimming....some really random places too.

If there's snow in the trees where I am skiing on a given day, that's where I am!

A group of friends and I have created and maintained some shots near a local hill I ski at. But, it's hit or miss with the winters in Southern New England. Some years are decent, others are non-existent.

Most of the skiing I do is gully's... the extent of the work I do is just clearing out fallen stuff of braches at eye level etc... nothing major. Would like to work on some of my own lines and have done some scoping, but that's another topic of discussion

JD that second picture is sexy. I ride trees for the majority of my time on the mountain. I would maintain lines during the summer- ie move blowdown ect... if I lived closer, but I dont.

LOVE the trees! Best stuff on the mountain IMHO. As for cutting, well Mount Snow does a good job as far as maintaining their on the map tree areas, so the only tree trimming I've done is if a body part of mine happens to collide and break a branch, well I'll move it out of the way. I seriously wouldn't consider doing some off season pruning, even if it was legal, as I've proved a few times at my house over the years that my skills as an arborist are somewhere between slim and none

I ski trees and I hit trees harder than Sonny Bono but I don't cut them..I sometimes hug them..but anything more can lead to splinters..

I ski trees. I haven't cut/maintained any lines, but there's a nice hill behind my house I've been thinking about doing some trimming on. These crazy ideas that might have become realities in my 20s seem crazier and less possible in my 40s:cry:
