Sometimes I've witnessed, though I would not admit to participating in, an extra dose of stupid when certain buddies get together on the hill.

Give it up! Share your Double Dog Dare ~ Dose of Stupid
I promise, it'll be our little secret ;)

OH YEAH -- Been ther Done stupid shit

The First year i was DOWNHILL skiing ( skied XC for 20 yrs prior) -- went with a great buddy of mine an ex All-American college Hockey player and a great 30 yr plus skier ..

WE go to the top he takes off -- STUPID ARSE me mentally says " No way that OLD BASTID is beating ME down the Hill ". - So i cut thru a double black diamond short cut . Well the old saying "Ski Good or Eat Wood " came to life . I hit some friggin small gravelly pebble like thingys and flew over the front end and of course put the wrists out in front to cushion the fall -- a real DUMBASS move .!!

Best part he says to me ----- "I got a brace in my car -- its ONLY 9:30 am ONLY a WIMP would quit Now " :D -- SO --------I keep skiing . We go to thet op of the Mtn ski down a ramp which i was NEVER on before which was really steep for a beginner and THEN some doofus skis right in front of me at the bottom and whacks my busted wrist -- I'm NOW in serious pain

. Now i have ZERO use of my left wrist so the pole is like taped in my hand -- My buddy then says to me "Damn i wish he'd been on MY side of the chair I'd of "TAKEN the Bastid OUT "-- damn ex hockey pucks gotta luv em :D :D

We get home that nite he brings me in to" the Queen of the HOP " and says "hes got 205 GOOD bones left !!! " My wrist later was like a friggin water balloon so off to the ER where another doc buddy set me and laffed when i told him to casr my pole into the cast cuz i WAS skiing next week with my son Hell or High water -- which I DID

MR TC broke his hand a few weeks before "our" second ski trip to Colorado this past year.
Trust me, I was not going to stay home, even if he had to, but he pushed it and went skiing.
Xray

First outing a week after the break, had to see if he could handle home hills before committing to Summit county Mountains. The ugly yellow jacket is the only one that would fit over his splint at the time. The motocross helmet is his normal(being a relative term) thing for him.
The Red knit mitten and duct tape is priceless!!!

He wondered why none of us wanted to be seen with him :)

Sounds like a couple of Winters ago, my son and His friend were racing and his friend had a broken thumb! I had to duct tape his pole to his hand with the ski hat wrapped with tape to keep his hand warm! It was zero F with 20 mph winds. Duct tape stops sticking at those temps! And he was cross blocking to boot as it was Slalom! :spread:

OH Yeah TC " the Queen" JUST reminded me of this INSANITY i PULLED -- it is skiing related somewhat!

AND since YOU guys are in the plowing bidness seems to fit -- here goes :

Several years ago We're on our way to go skiing.

It's the AM after a Major evening pow dump , The car is all loaded up with gear BUT driveway isn't plowed, and I'm in a hurry to go skiing and too damn lazy to crank up my ARIENS . So picture this --i take my Celica outta the garage and back up WITH the DOOR open to see cuz it's still snowing

TO MY" AMAZEMENT" -- i discover that hey the OPEN door PLOWS SNOW -- HOLY SHIT QUEENIE I can PLOW snow with the CELICA !!

Jeez it was great , Fast , effective ---- TIL I WENT to CLOSE the damnn car door -- well $$$$ later and some new hinges and the Celica was rockin again -- the QUEEN still LUVS to tell everyone who'll listen about what a "genius " her husband is :D :D Brings TEARS to her beautiful eyes -- HellLIFE here is NEVER boring

In my almost 30 years of sliding downhill on 2 planks, I've found that more often than not a double dog dare will involve a guy trying to impress a girl

It used to be so much easier when all I needed to say was "hey baby want to check out my 213's" ;)

I will generally refuse to be involved in dares.... I prefer calculated risks...

I'll pass. If I'm not doing it on my own, there's generally a good reason for it.

Yup, been there----Many moons ago a group of us were ribbin' another one of our buddies on how easy snowboarding is. Snowboarding is for people who can't ski, snowboarding this, and snowboarding that. Anyway, there was a challenge.....to make a very long story short we all went to the rental dept to get boards. Long and short of it was that there was a broken thumb and a lot of sore rear ends. I HAD THE BROKEN THUMB!!!!

Friends will be friends but we all have done this! Who is the best skier amongst a group of friends? :snow: Here is my pound of stupidity.

When young and carefree we will often do the unthinkable mixed with some serious mogul skiing. We skied the seasons first 3 weeks but didn't have much snow cover so moguls were limited. One run was marked offlimites due to little snow. But during my off days I marked a fast fall-line trail down this steep run that was full of treestumps with just enough snow to make it down the run. So as the season starts I ski this run alone and get very good on this run with no falls but its dangerously full of wood and rough. Problem is that the snow remains limited but a chairlift passes over this run As other runs are opening as snowmaking is underway few see me go below. I love the challenge of this run but if I'm caught skiing it bouncing from treestump to treestump I'll loose my pass or possibly have to ski somewhere else for the season. Or if a beginner tries this...

The next following saturday me and my friends assemble to ski as usual and we talk about the tougher blackdiamonds and closed runs. Earlier that morning I showed my buddies 2 brothers this run because they could ski it no problem. But one brother couldn't keep it to himself. Disaster as he invited rivals to try. When they all got there they stopped. Refused to do the run. I recommended that they don't so they didn't. The 2 brothers and I (3) were determined to go so we went down in the middle of the day to share in the title for the most dangerous decent of the day. Our weekly small competition within our group was over for the week.

These 2 rivals eventually that day did go down the run but were injured enough to end their season. Broken arm and leg. Full reports were made and our passes were suspended for the season. I had 3-4 ski suits and 6 pairs of ski's so I kept sking the season as no one could recognize me as I skied alone most of the time anyway. The 2 brothers were banned for the season. Even though I explained skiing is a dangerous sport when you go out of bounds. About 25 others wound up in the hospital that year from that closed run.

Being a racer at the time I lived for speed and the challenge of tough runs. After that I learned to repect the mountain and to ski within my own limits not anyone elses. I did accept a few more challenges and won those. The lesson I learned is that we were all very good skiers and did not need to show off but I needed to practice on this dangerous run alone for the added challenge. I had my best ski season that year as a young man.

This was 25 years ago so with all the arial sking and ski park features these days, I was just ahead of my time now that I look back. Some of the friends are no longer around but I'm trying to locate the rest!

Sking is about the fun of the sport always has been and always will be!:snow:

I've never done anything due to peer pressure....

Actually I really am pretty good about knowing my limits on the slopes, or maybe I'm just too conservative...

I'm very similar to you. I make my own decisions, even as a kid and a young adult I was that way. I know my limits on things when skiing or mountain biking and am usually okay with skipping something. I normally follow my gut and if it tells me "don't do it", I don't. Usually when I try something, it's when I don't think about it for too long.
