Last season I saw on two occasions someone snowshoeing up the middle of a ski trail at Burke. I'm not talking about the side, I am talking about the middle. On the second occasion, my friends and I came around a corner and almost hit the snowshoers. The snowshoers gave us dirty looks. Folks, it is a ski trail. Have some common sense.

I also saw last Christmas a family out for a walk up the middle of a ski trail at Burke, while their kids were getting ready to sled down one of the pitches of the trail. Again, the kids were getting into a position such that an oncoming skier or rider would not be able to see them until they came over the crest.

While maybe not "dumb" per se, snowboarders who sit in the middle of the trail strike me as "non-thinking." Almost entirely because when you're sitting, you're shorter, and more difficult to see below a bump or crest. Simple as that.

Sitting is fine- just pick your spot a little better. Skiers standing in the middle of the trail are equally annoying, but at least they're more visible.

Other people.

On a slightly more serious note....when Killington put a "SLOW" sign, on the middle of the Snowshed Crossover. On a powder day. Moving any faster than walking pace, was impossible anyway....

Strange that this just came up in a conversation the other night: a russian sitting just below the gondola at the top of Cascade at Kmart with a light jacket, no gloves, no hat, and skis off. This guy was just there turning blue in the -20 degree windchill. He spoke no English because I asked him if he was all right. I had a spare pair of gloves but he wouldn't accept them. He just sat there in the snow, on the trail, and in the blizzard shaking, holding his skis. He wouldn't take any assistance from anyone, and it seemed most everyone was trying to help him. I'll never know what his deal was other than being incredibly stupid I guess.
