Too bad he didn't try early yesterday...that was the buzz at SR all day. Morning snow conditions were fast and not much wind in that part off the mountain. That qtr pipe made my stomach turn to look at it. Too bad he didn't make it. Crazy to try, but still wanted to see him succeed. Here's a pic from yesterday that includes the airbags...not as cool as the actual attempt, but interesting I think.

Looks like we have a new world record.

This was posted on tgr: "Freeskier Simon Dumont broke the World Quarter Pipe Record today in his home resort of Sunday River. The Bethel local hit 34 ft, breaking the previous record of 32.5 ft held by snowboarder Terje Haakonsen. Dumont broke the record with a cork 900 tail grab"

Congrats to Simon Dumont...and Sunday River!

How long is that pile of snow going to last on the mountain?

i wasn't that impressed. quarter pipes are pretty easy. up and down. as long as the top of the lip kicks you out right and you land right back in the tranny. on a stranger note i once saw Terje after a night of partying do a one foot method at the hospital quarter at uvm after we indulged the night before. i was impressed to say the leased. he is an amazing rider.

i was in no way saying it's easy( and your sure not going to catch me doing it) but. as far air. quarter pipes are easy when you put them next to gaps and drops. but to put this in perspective. this way more than i am willing to commit to at this point in my life. 10 years ago is a different story, but now i have employees and their families that count on me, so i can't be hucking myself off the first available drop. but who really cares.

According to the press release, he F'd up one of the runs and fell 66 feet missing the pipe. Anything that shoots you over 60 feet in the air beats my definition of easy. I am sure if it was that easy, the record would be even higher but it took this dude several days to get the record. Not my cup of tea, but this is clearly not easy and very risky stuff.

Easy did not come to mind. You really had to see it. Seeing the pipe stand above the trees was quite shocking. I came down paradigm yesterday and was like.... wow. It looked huge even from this far away.

That thing looks scary as hell. I can't believe he threw a 900. Was MSP filming that?

Not much room for error. If you don't hit it just right you're either dropping 30' or 60' to a very flat landing.

(Maybe I'm just a wuss. The last time I was in a half-pipe I got a whopping 2' out, dropped to flat, and fractured both my thumbs .)
