This isn't the first time this has happened at HV. Either the snowmaking staff is incompetent, or this is a publicity stunt. Perhaps a little of both?

or maybe they have a tone of lake effect and blown snow over some dumb slick rock face.
All I know is that i'd have some frozen drawers if I was on that lift right above where they thing broke.

it happend on the Wall. I grew up in western new york. its a combination of the lake effect ontop the man made snowpack. HV gets pounded with snow and they just got a good amount tossed their way. Plus the wall is at the ideal angle for an avy

heard that black hole at Sunday River slid twice a couple weeks ago when they tried to groom it out. must have been a hell of a ride for the guy in the cat! although i think they winch that trail.

Anybody ever drop that cliff? How is the landing?

At first glance it looks like a cliff the way the snow broke away and the way the picture was taken  . However if you look at where the edge of the trail meets the trees you can see that it is just a rather steep section of the trail that has no topsoil (or much of anything else for that matter) to keep snow from sliding down. It is by no means a cliff.
