Date Hiked: 03-06-2004
Trail Greeley Ponds & Mt. Osceola trail via Route 112
Distance: 7.6 Miles RT
Difficulty: harder than 7.6 up to 4156 & 4340 sounds
Conditions: less snow than recent winters, warm, rain for first 2 hours
Special gear: Snowshoes, helpful if you hate postholing, crampons very useful especially in Chmney bewteen the peaks, axe, helpful if you did'nt want to be that careful in Chimney.

Started at 8:30 with Al from CT & made good tiem to the trail junction. As the trail got steeper, we less than super fit hikers got slower, as we neared the top the rain got less & then stopped. Unfortunately the views did not appear until we had left the Mt. Osceola summit. The views we did get from the top of the Chimney, near East Osceola's summit & from the slide on East Osceola were much better than we thought we would get based on the weather report & early morning conditions. Only dissapointment was that the Roast Beef place in Lincoln was not open.

I always loved the hike to the Osceola's and the bushwhack to West Peak. The hike itself is wonderful, though seeing how immense Waterville Valley has expanded over the years saddens me.

If you've never had a World Famous "Bill & Bob's Roast Beef" you are missing out on the best of the best, especially after a day on the O's!
