God willing I would love to be up at Jay for that.

That's my plan.

I'll have to burn an extra vacation day given I'll need a drive day on Tuesday, but it will be so worth it. I may even pay for lodging at Jay rather than imposing on family like I normally do on my n.VT trips.

Well, a couple friends of mine were at an astronomy conference for this eclipse, that had booked into Jackson Hole six years ago. (Because astronomers.) Then a year or so ago, JH figured out they were sitting on a gold mine, or at least a big mountain right under the path of totality with an aerial tramway on it, and bought them out of their contract so they could rebook the space at a much higher rate. The conference was able to rebook into Sun Valley, also on the path, at a not quite as exorbitant rate (my friends stayed in Hailey, about 15 miles south, because the conference hotel was still kind of spendy).

In defense of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, they do not own or operate any of the hotels in Teton Village or Jackson and sold eclipse lift tickets at very reasonable rates compared with Sun Valley.

If the eclipse is around 3:30 pm, will it even be visible from Jay Peak unless you are on the summit? I can see things getting very crowded up there.

Oh, that's good to know. So it was whatever hotel they booked that jacked them out of their reservation, not JHMR.
