I have been looking at both Elan Magfire 10 and Atomic M:10.

I am a high intermediate, early advance skier, and like short turns. I am looking for a ski which would be great in Eastern conditions (i.e. ice) and would allow me to do a bit more when I go out West. I am 6'0" and 160 lbs, so I am a light weight.

What are people impression of those skis?

I have the Elan M 12, the precursor to the Magfire series (same ski basically). I also work/worked at Atomic. I would pick the Elan's (make sure you get the fusion binding system, it makes a huge difference). They are awesome skis and have performed well in a variety of tasks!!

PS you should demo though

Ive skiied on the M:B5 (think thats what its called)and it was awesome. Soo fat, yet gets over on edge like its the width of a twig. Fast and stable, it is the ultimate 1 ski quiver.

The only elan i have tried was the ripstix. Same description, but felt like it was driving a truck through bumps. A very agile truck. I liked the metron better, but the Elan could be choice for someone with different taste, same quility ski.

Lately I have been demoing a few skis at you guys have suggested.

Here what I tried

Atomic M:9 and M:10
Head iM72, XRC 800, and Supershape
Elan Magfire 8 and 10
Volkl AC3
Fischer AMC76 and RX8

Here are my impression:

Atomic M:9 and M:10

I was ready to love these skis but I was let down a bit. The were competent but nothing special. Maybe I was expecting too much. But man they are heavy.

Head iM72, XRC 800, and Supershape

Hated the 800 and Supershape. I do not know why but I did not ski them long enough to find out. I liked to iM72 but not enough to buy them.

Elan Magfire 8 and 10

Just OK, I liked the 8 more than the 10.

Volkl AC3

Actually, I like these a lot. I was surprised since I tried them as a lark. Good turn initiation, stable.

Fischer AMC76 and RX8

I was going to try the AMC73 and the shop did not have them in my length, so I tried the AMC76. I was surprised how nimble these were. I liked them so much that I almost purchased them until I tried the RX8. What a ski? Incredible, quick edge to edge, stable, short, medium and long turns. I purchased these.

I wanted to buy an All Mountain Cruiser and hoping to have the same performance as groomers. The AMC76 were close but not as competent as RX8. I think that the "1-ski-quiver" is not there yet.

I demo-d the RX9 last year. Loved it but didn't want to work that hard all day long. I bet I would have loved the 8.

Congrats!
