75 miles from house on back, back county roads going from pass Bethel NY home of Woodstock concert from 1960. My cousin drove his GMC so we got their in about 815. On the way get message from Cornhead that he meet us their. Awesome News ,my cousin forgot his goggles but Cornhead came in with two for ny cousin to borrow, he really appreciated that. Started on chair at 830 am. Nice I am probably earliest day for me not counting staying in hotel. My cousin and his GF first time to Elk. It snowy most of the morning conditions were good a little crowds but not more then few minutes wait at lift line. They liked the hill a lot nice crusing trails, bought morning ticket , I did the mogul trail and lost them I tend to that to much. Got hungry had bad burger their , then meet up again ski some more fun times were had by all. Thanks Cornhead for coming my cousin and his GF said you were cool they did take more runs with you then me lol. Cornhead had to leave around 12 ish so he could catch football. I skiied to 115 pm. Hopefully the girl who fell from beginner chair is okay. Another great day at Elk, sorry I didn't realize Spring Mountain High was there.

Always great skiing with you Scotty! Your cousin's GF is cool, and he'll make a good cop someday, just kidding, he's cool too. Tell him to try some longer skis, I bet he'd like them a lot better. Speaking of being used to straight skis. That was the coolest thing, the guy skiing a brand new pair of 30yr old skis. I wish I took a picture of them. Our conversation in the lift line went like this.

CORNHEAD: Wow, those skis are in great shape!

ROSSI GUY: This is my first time out on them.

CORNHEAD: First time this season?

ROSSI GUY: No, first time ever, I mounted the bindings yesterday, the skis. have never been used.

I wanted to follow him down the hill, that's pretty cool, not 30yr old used skis, 30yr old brand new skis, like a time warp.

That was funny conversation you had with the guy in boots. My cousin is a correction officer. Glad we all had fun times.

F! In chronological order,
weather dot com predicts 1" - 3",
Friend #1, very tempted to go, only skiing without a ACL (didn't happen skiing), not so appealing, plus had afternoon evening commitment - if you go have fun.
Friend #2 (the one that matters), not interested in one or two inches coming off the back of a warmup cycle, don't think it'll be so good - if you go have fun.
Friend #3, work scheduled, have fun.
Friend #4, out of the country.
Friend #5, never skied but should pick it up easily, i didn't call because of snow uncertainty.
Didn't feel like driving up myself, i see now that was a mistake!
Sat eve into Sun., Guessed Saturdays 3" would've been skied off…"snowed all morning", you're killing me Scotty, refer to post #5!!!!!!!!!
I need more ski friends!

My son just got back from a three day PSIA event at Elk, 1/27-29. He said the conditions were excellent. Good manmade surface on all slopes and I guess they got ~5" over the weekend that had not been totally skied off and sure wasn't melting! Cold up there, but very few icy/hard pack spots. His first time at Elk. He said it's got a whole batch of trails with an honest 1000' vertical, this is a compliment from us who live in the vertically challenged mid-Atlantic.

i was up there last saturday and it was great...only slick spots were on skiers right of tunhannock...bumps on mohawk were very nice, and chippewa was a blanket of ungroomed, freshly blown fluffy manmade...ran that a few times before anyone else discovered it

Ditto, last Saturday wasn't half bad only they never got the 2" to 4"' weather dot com promised!!!! Was snowing on the way up the NE ext tpk somewhere after the Leigh Tunnel to a little past the Poconos exit, after which i saw a plow train heading south, knew that couldn't be good for ELK. Camelback JF/BB got the 4", d@rnit!
Did get snow showers around 3pm picking up intensity by 3:45 over by 4 ish. My car was covered with about half a inch. Also was still snowing heading towards the Poconos on the ride home :\
And yes Mohawk was fun! Snow was soft just about everywhere. Tunkhannock was bumped up ok too. I kept referring to Chippewa as "Baby Bumps" run, fun!
The chemical toe warmers i picked up in ELK's ski shop made all the difference!

SMH, next time, lets try to post that we're going? I didn't think any AZ'ers were heading there last Saturday, had thought the 19th was the micro gathering.

sounds like a plan...my next trip up will likely be the weekend of 2/22-23

if only they could get upper seneca open...my favorite trail...narrow, natural and two sets of lift towers to navigate
