Elk is awesome for a Pa. ski area. It does not suffer from the huge gapper crowds that other Pa. and southern NY mountains suffer from. The lifts are slow, but the crowds even on a busy weekend are not that bad. If you play it right and ski the front half of the mountain early am and move to the back half later in the morning you avoid most of it. During the week your by yourself. Only som of the trails on the front half of the mountain are lighted but it still doesn't get that crowded. Not much in the way of night life in the area. A decent hotel is 20 min north or south on 81.

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely check it out this season.

Question about night skiing - looks like they keep some of the hill open for night skiing. Are all the bumpy and steeper runs open at night or do they get closed down?

Less than 1/3 of Elks terrain is lit for night skiing and it's mainly beginner/intermediate runs and the terrain park..

So to answer your question, most of the bumpy/steep runs at Elk are closed for night skiing. Elk is too far from the major population centers to off 100% night skiing like ski areas further South and East..

Like Grilled Steeze said, most of the Mt. is closed at night. The steepest trails (Mohawk and Iriquois) are closed at night as is the big bump trail (Tunkhannok) other than that, all that's open that's worth skiing is Susquehanna and Slalom (steeper fall line runs), and Delaware, The best stuff is not lit.
