My families's policy is that I can skip a lot (10-12 times) as long as I'm getting good grades.

my father would pull me out of school on powder days a lot. That can be a very good incentive to get good grades, although mine could have been better.

I have two daughters, 8 and 4. No issue for the four year old to skip daycare of course, but if the older one is doing OK we allow her to skip a couple of days maybe once or twice in the winter. Last winter I think she missed four and this winter she missed two in December.

We usually email her teacher and ask to send the assignments she will be missing in advance. The first night in the condo or hotel room she does the make up homework. Also takes any missed tests a day or two early.

No issues so far....

I also will let my kids take a day...or four...out of school to ski. Mine are 13 and 9. I just let the teachers know in advance and try to get any work that they will miss and they usually do it the first night we go. The 13 yr old is always on the honor roll and the younger one gets good grades in 4th grade so as long as they keeop that up i will let them take some days off to ski.

Education is not just in school...there is of course ski school though

I would take my kids out for a week every season..it's harder now that the oldest is in 8th grade...

But after skiing, when we are making dinner, would be homework, tutor time

This year, however, has not been an issue....damn el nina

Do you ever let your kids skip school to go skiing? If so about how many times a season?

The only thing my wife will go for without a big fight is once a year if our youngest stays on the honor roll.

We do, usually twice a season. The 2 oldest boys are on honor roll, if not it would be zero.

Getting tougher to do now that my oldest has increased soccer commitments.

One day out won't hurt. The kid will remember that day forever, what's that worth?:)

My parents (when I was older) let me stay home from school occasionally because I had good grades. I would let my kids stay "home" to ski on occasion, as long as it didn't affect their school work.

I have another season and a half to figure this one out with my wife. Now, missing a day of daycare and/or preschool is no biggie.

What I forsee happening when my oldest starts kindergarten in the fall of '09 is that my wife and I will split Monday ski days with the youngest (both my wife and I have most Mondays off so we try and do the 3 day ski weekend as much as possible), where one of us 1 weekend will take the oldest home on Sunday night while the other stays and skis Monday with the youngest and then we'll flip-flop the following weekend with who brings the oldest home.

If the kids can progress academically and meet the standards set for skills and knowledge, then missing a few days here and there is a non-issue. We set too big a priority on attendance and too little emphasis on learning,

I have no problem with my kids (or your kids) missing a day of school for a high quality ski day.

I missed 2 days in 2nd grade. From then on, I did not miss any until my second year of law school, when I skipped a week. It wasn't just my parents' decision. I would not skip school myself either. Finally during my second year of law school I decided to just do it. I possibly missed as much class that week as I did in all of college and the rest of law school combined; if not, it was close to it.

I skip about 3 or 4 a year to ski... I haven't yet this year but I did skip a day for the Red Sox parade. So far, I'm planning on missing at least 2 in March and who knows how many more... maybe another 1 or 2. I hate missing school and am stubborn when it comes to staying home sick so I guess that makes up for my ski days. Last year I missed 3 for skiing, 6 for a school trip to Orlando, and none for sickness.

In my entire school career k-12 I missed 10 days of school tops. Both of my parents were teachers so there was no way I was gonna skip to ski. Most of those days missed were when I played hockey. Fridays we would need to skip to get to the tourney, or it would even start during the day.

I didn't even consider skipping on Senior skip day till my mom asked me what i would be doing, and told me if I wanted to skip I could no problem.
