As some of you are aware, our five year old middle cat Blues had fallen very ill this week. Last night from 5 until 10:30 I spent between our Vets and the Animal Hospital trying to diagnose and comfort our beloved friend. Xrays at the vet revealed abnormalities in the lungs and abdomen. Ultrasound at the hospital determined this to be fluids and with the other factors in play was presumed to be wet Feline Infesctious Peritonitis of which there is no cure. Lab results will confirm this, but it was obvious from the Doctors concern that our time with Blues was going to be short.
I brought him home and while he had perked up from the fluids he received, he still was not eating or drinking. My wife and I made the decision that waiting until Monday for the lab results of the fluids would be waiting for a miracle that will not come. We also feel that it is not fair if his only means of nourishment are artificial.
We have an appointment for 11 this morning to say goodbye. I feel blessed that we were able to bring Blues home for one last night. Though so very hard, it was precious to have him purring away with us for one last night, pacing up and down the bed, back and forth between us just like he always would every night we invited him into the room before bed time.
Jazzmin, his big sister, is sitting next to me as I write offering loads of affection. She has been following me around our home this morning staying close like she has not before. She knows that I am hurting and that her little brother is not well. Buster, the kitten, is too young to understand, but even though he's only had two months with his big brother, I can see much of Blues's spirit within him.
It goes without saying, but hold all that you love close. Life is beautiful, but fleeting......
We love you Blues and are so grateful for the gift of love and happiness your beautiful life blessed us with. Until we meet again my great friend.
Fare you well, my honey, fare you well my only true one.
All the birds that were singing are flown, except you alone.
Im Going to leave this brokedown palace,
On my hands and my knees, I will roll, roll, roll.
Make myself a bed by the waterside,
In my time,in my time, I will roll, roll, roll.
In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.
River going to take me, sing sweet and sleepy,
sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.
It's a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago.
Mama, mama many worlds I've come since I first left home.
Goin' home, goin' home, by the waterside I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.
Going to plant a weeping willow,
By the bank's green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sing a lullaby beside the water,
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.
Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.
