Not thrilled with Liftopia for this partnership. I'm not someone who believes in hoarding secret stashes, but really don't like the fatmap concept

I can see the point of this for large above treeline alpine areas where there are few landmarks and many options from which to choose a path of decent. Their primary rational seems to be to help users plan better in avalanche and/or hazardous (e.g. cliffs) terrain.
This "usefulness" is VERY minor at best for east coast mountains since very little of this terrain exists outside a few well know locations (Mt Washington, Mt Mansfield Chin, etc). As many are thinking pretty much the only usefulness around here will end up being the wider disclosure of hidden lines that people used to have to earn (by asking a local, or keeping a sharp eye out for entrances).

Will this kind of technology lead to more or less people getting swamped in the wilderness off the backside of Killington?

So when somebody loses some fingers and toes after trying to ski the backside of Killington because fatmap showed them the way, will fatmap be liable in civil court? I'm sure the idiot that follows fatmaps would quickly try and sue when it goes bad.

Fatmaps will only be showing other peoples ventures! If people are foolish enough to follow those trails so be it!

So I downloaded the app. Basically it is a pay as you go solution. Effectively, you are buying details trail info tours etc for a ski area and it is not free. Currently there are about 6 resorts available the rest are coming soon. I do not like it. Reminds me of Slope tours where they charge you for information. If I want that type of info I will ask when I get there. I also would not trust an app with Avy dangers.
