Is that Ski Granby?
Yes sir. Already been a good season for them with its earliest opening ever and very good business over the holidays. May not be the biggest but she sure skied well Thanksgiving when I was there. Great place to hide when everywhere else is over run and nice location to day trip out of too. Not only close to Winter Park but pretty easy drives to Steamboat and Summit County (with no pass to cross)

Thanks bud. Planning to go there with wife along with Loveland and Sunlight (Indy 3-some) in early March. I have heard good things - nice to hear you like it.

Park City running total 112 inches

Jay peak 163 inches.

Marketing or not were doing just fine back here

Jay Peak is always king of the east for snow, but yeah, I never believe their snow totals.

When you're the best why do you need to lie? It's like the high school QB being recruited by every NCAA D1 school, who tries to pad his athletic accomplishments.

Well I am really glad to hear that. Just to be clear I actually have had below average snow pack skiing that was good out there
Yeah, I'm getting spoiled.

Even "average" snowfall out here is better than the east because what does at least fall continuously stays in good shape, whereas you can get a phenomenal 20 inch storm in the east that skis like paradise for 3 to 5 days, then get a rain freeze that crushes your soul right back to square one. Chutes & Ladders style.

Did that 3some last year. Started at Granby and it was a good warmup. Fun place. Liked the lookers right part of the hill.
Loveland is incredible.
Sunlight had some great steeps off to skiers right. A little flat getting to them but well worth it. Loved the vibe there. While in glenwood springs the hotsprings are a must do. Also the salt caves (natural underground sauna) where a great relaxation.

So the extreme cold pocket is staying parked over most of the the U.S. states till the end of January. Which is good thing for SNOW and a bad thing if the Jet stream track doesn't change enough for it to carry storms up the coast instead of out to Sea.
Adding to the cold front is a new Winter storm which is named Cora by the Weather channel

Another significant winter storm now named Cora is on the way. With snow from Texas to the East Coast on Friday!

Apparently La Nina has finally formed late this weather season with a weak "La Nina". Shall we shake the magic Snow globe and see where our winter goes??

NOAA says La Niña ocean cooling has finally arrived, but it’s weak and may cause fewer problems for most.

The mountains have been expanding terrain and are looking forward to the next big Storm to fully open up at "Week 11" Sunday (1/12/25)
The East is in really good shape for this continued cold spell just bundle up as its is still in the teen digits with wind chills. We still have a great set up for the future expansion of terrain. With the continued Cold the Snowmaking will continue. The Northeast is just looking forward to the next major winter storm system. The West has gotten more SNOW and has opened up more terrain. There are Skiable and Rideable mountains all over North America so a tasting of what is considered open terrain with Trail counts this point in the season "WEEK 11" around North America. These are considered lift serviced trails at some of the open ski mountains on Sunday 1/12/25. Hike to your delight for more trail fun.

Coming up late next week, the southern lobe of the Polar Vortex will generate a much more significant, frigid cold Arctic Blast that will graze across Canada and the United States through the second half of January.

While it is locked for the extended period, forecast trends are showing a back off today, then more cold but another one day moderation Saturday. That may be accompanied by precip and right now I hate how the temp model is trending.

So MLK weekend has the MAGIC-8 ball saying. "Possible snow in your future". Opinions as we welcome our next winter storm and first (kind of) Nor'easter. Enter Weather channels Winter storm Demi :)
Are any 30mph+ wind issues possible on Sunday(night)/Monday a issue? (negative wind chills probable)

UNSTOPPABLE POLAR VORTEX WITH COLD AND BELOW FREEZING TILL MID-FEBRUARY

Included is the ensemble forecast of the stratospheric Polar Vortex winds. You can see that the forecast keeps the upper Polar Vortex stronger than normal well into February. The new peak is coming just next week, along with the strong cold outbreak across the whole United States. It shows no sign of slowing down, making it quite unstoppable for now.

After Mid-February a possible Jet stream change is Predicted.

You've become spoiled (extremely) quickly. Even Park City skied great yesterday, and I'm sure Alta's conditions must be better.
Everything was frozen solid...the steeper pitches were not fun..
It was warm thursday abd pretty cold and very windy saturday.
There were 5 of us...all agreed...it sucked.
And very empty. Mlk friday is usualy busy.
