I remember my first date there and thinking that we were in trouble standing at the top of a double blue and it was as steep as Avalanche at Cannon with moguls the size of a VW bug. This was the first time I was intimidated by a mountain. It wore off by that afternoon though.

You might find some untracked / deeper powder in the Cirque well past the dead tree. Cheyne Bowl and Bernies Bowl may also have the goods. Also try Saratoga Bowl in the morning. There is an extremely long traverse at the bottom of the Saratoga Bowl. to get out that takes awhile. Saratoga can be cement soft snow in the afternoon.

The cover was thin this year at JH. Hobacks had a lot more branches sticking through the snow than past years.

Sounds like you might enjoy the Thunder bumps. Can't miss them. Its righter under Thunder chair.

On Feb 11 and 12 we got some snow. The Cirque had the goods with over the knee powder. Cheyne bowl area has some nice powder. See flags up near bottom of Cheyne bowl where patroller Walley died in an inbounds Avalanche this year.

To get to the Cirque go up the Sublette chair and exit right. Skiers left of the Sublette follow the traverse around below Corbet’s Couloir. You can get a nice view of Corbet's from the bottom here. Now you can either ski down between the rocks on skiers left below you (recommended for first time) or proceed on traverse and then hike up just a bit to the top of Teensleep bowl. Either way you drop down and go to skiers left past the cliff signs and to the top of the Cirque bowl. Here I recommend you want to continue on the traverse all the way well PAST the big dead tree. Keep going past the big dead tree and drop in. Bob Peters was nice enough to take us over there a few years ago where we found some powder. Beware at the bottom of this area of the Cirque for the narrow traverse to your left.

Check out the HostelX downstairs. Lots of history there. Most of the stuff on the HostelX walls has been removed just before the sale. Its still got a lot of history.

Try to search out different things. Like Skiers left of Amphitheater groomers sometimes has some nice powder over there on the way over to Thunder chair.

Enjoy.

BTW - Learn how to self arrest if your going to do Alta chutes. Tower 3, or Expert Chutes. If not skiing the trees put your ski pole straps on your wrist. You will need your ski poles to self arrest.

Click here to learn how to Self arrest by Bob Peters.

Also don't forget your swim wear. The hot tubs at your hotel looks great from the Mangy Moose.

For a reasonable meal in town try the Teton Steak house and order their Teton Steak. Awesome salid bar with soup for less than $20. Mangy moose prime rib is also reasonable for Teton Village. I also like the excellent chefs at the Rendexvous Bistro. A lot of locals like the Bistro. At Bubba BBQ bring your own beer in but you can't leave with any beer. Make multiple trips outside to get more beer if unsure how much beer you will drink inside Bubbas.

Keeping in mind that we are not renting a car and are staying in Teton Village, our dinner line-up is as follows (5 nights, no particular order):

1) Pepi Stiegler's
2) Mangy Moose
3) Bubba's BBQ (at least 1 night in town)
4) Couloir (we wanted at least one fancy dinner...I know people like Rendezvous and Snake River a lot, but we were worried that for us (and esp. for my buddy who eats out at highly rated restaurants on clients' dimes all the time) these might seem like above average NYC restaurants, or at least, nothing too out of the ordinary, as dining experiences go...however, taking a gondola to 9,000+ feet at night with warmed blankets to a fancy restaurant is not something we can do in NYC/NJ). I know this will be expensive and somewhat shee-shee, but I have some ulterior motives in mind of the romantic variety.

5) Wild card - maybe repeat 1 of the first 3, maybe try the highly rated italian place in our hotel, maybe even eat in our room, maybe check out a burger at a tbd place. Any suggestions? I'm open to going to town again, but am thinking the group will prob decide against that.

We are having bfast in the hotel everyday, part of our package.

Aside from the above places, anywhere y'all can recommend in Teton Village itself (or on mountain) for a) lunch and b) apres ski?

I believe dinner at the top of Gondola is $75 or so I have been told.

Another expensive place in town not far from Bubbas BBQ is the Gun Barrel. If you like history, the wild west, really old guns, then you may like the Gun Barrel. To tell the truth none of us in our group had a good ELK dinner at the Gun Barrel. I believe the Elk Steak was better than the Elk Stew. Runs around $50 each.

For lunch/dining you may also want to check out the Alpenhof Bistro, Teton Village. Its next to the TRAM and is always over looked.

For a quick breakfast try next to Lee's Tees or downstairs under Mangy Moose.

Wow no Billy's Burgers on your list. You can't leave Jackson without trying Billys burger. This is not fancy and wear a warm coat because it can be cold near the door at Billy's Location skiers's right of Million Dollar Cowboy bar. If its not your cup of tea then my favorite place, the Teton Steak House, is only two blocks away.

BTW - The bands at the Cowbow bar can be very good. The bands will play whatever you ask, assuming you will dance to it. Early in the week it country and more rock and roll toward the end of the week. Thusday night around 6-7pm learn how to two step dance at the Cowboy. If the band is playing country two step music, you can ask them for a rock and roll song to dance to.

Have fun.

If we are only going to do 1 night in town, what would you recommend between Bubba's and Billy's?

I got to go with Billy's over Bubba's BBQ. Our group of guys have gone to JH for 9 consecutive years. We have been to Bubbas BBQ 3 times in the early years. For what ever reason we have not been back to it. Nobody in the group has ever said lets go to Bubba's in recent years. Our group is not big on BBQ. We definitly have a few guys that have to hit Billy's at least one night. You can try to get a table inside at Billys but if you want the true experience sit at the counter in the front, watch the burgers fly, and join in the conversation. I do NOT recommend going to Billy's on your last night at JH.

I am sure any women in your group would enjoy the Rendezvous Bistro over Bubbas or Billy's.

BTW - When you go to the Mangy moose, the Buffalo at the Mangy moose my friend had was excellent a few weeks ago. I had the prime rib was awesome.

So, how was it?
I don't know you but I felt pretty bad for you. It is one of the worst seasons that JH has had and they got a huge dump on the East coast. Might as well give us a TR.

Hope to have a TR up by the end of the day...got back middle of last week and was swamped with work and school. Then was in VT sans internet over the weekend.
