Hiked down Fishin Jimmy several weeks ago. Some steep spots but there are stairs drilled into the rock to help you along. It's not too overgrown and there are bog bridges in the soggy spots.

I've been on it three times, each time to summit the two peaks, I've read the trail sign but no story. I've been on it in fall, winter & spring. It's not a hard trail, when it's wet, it not really muddy but does hold a fair share of puddles, some pretty large.

From Lafayette Place, the RT using the Fishin Jimmy is 10 miles

What story?

I like combining both trails mentioned here for a North & South Kinsman loop. Up via Fishin' Jimmy, down via Kinsman Pond trail.

the AMC book mentioned the trail was named for a local charactor and there was a story written about this local by the same name. So, I did a little research and found the book in a local library, it was originally published in a collection of short stories in 1890... the author has been largely fogotten - see below - but the book chronicles the life of this "simple" man, his subsequent religious "awakening" and the events leading to his injuries and subsequent death on the side of Lafeyette. It's written is the coliquial - it's a nice story. I'm in the process of reading the entire collection.

here's the story... http://www.archive.org/details/fishinjimmy00slosmiss
