Flat footed friend with boot problems

I have a friend I am getting into skiing and because he is flat footed he is having a lot of pain. He got a good fitted boot and what not but the pain is there, any ideas, I want to keep him in skiing

Has he had custom orthodics made?

I have flat feet... The best $50 I've spent on skiing was on a pair of A-Line foot beds... Transformed my boots... If your friend doesn't have any footbeds, buy him some as a happy new year's gift.
