Even though it will be butt cold, thinking of taking my bro to the Bush for the first time this Friday. For me, slow lifts, woods and bumps take the edge of the -5 f. But, the latest forcast has some winds gust up to 35 mph. And some steady winds of 20 mph. So my question is to those in the know, do you think it is a bad idea to make plans for Friday?

Ellen went on windhold on Saturday, but the LP lifts spun all day I believe. I think the gusts that day were well above 35 MPH.

I dunno about Friday/Friday night, but Sat looks like it's gonna kick ass.

The prevailing wind comes out of the NW this time of year and will be the case on Friday. Much of Lincoln Peak is sheltered from this wind by the main ridge except for the very tops of the upper mountain lifts that unload at the ridge line.

Ditto.

Wind is one of those things that is hard to forecast. Ellen is very exposed on the summit and wind closures usually impact the Summit and North Ridge Chairs. As for LP, Heaven's Gate and Slide Brook can be impacted.

Now in the days of ASC the issue was not "wind" hold, but "cash" hold. Lifts 'mysteriously' would close midweek when there was no wind at all....the official reason: wind.

Worst case is skiing the lower mountain lifts and no Slide Brook. I have seen Castle Rock, GMX, and Super Bravo closed due to wind though....

Thanks all. So winds from the NW would have to be pretty nutso windy to close C-rock?

I'd be happier than a steemy crap on a seedless watermelon slice if all that was open was Super B and Castlerock.

At this point it's kind of a crap shoot. Check on Thursday for a better idea on whats forecast. According to what I currently see it does look like a basic repeat of last Saturday but not as strong winds but windy nontheless.

Here is the update for the next week or so from the guy who runs things at the Bush. Like Barreta always said "you can take that to the bank"
