I guess that depends on what you drive. I don't mind them in the back of my Jimmy-the dampness does not seem to persist and none of the surfaces get damaged. I'd rather keep the crap out of the bindings and keep my fuel mileage up. I use the car for sales stops too. Skis on the top might make me look too casual.

Yeah since we are all Gapers at one point or another i simply take newbies in stride and realize that their business is good for the hill and for me by helping to keep price somewhat in check . If they are in front of mee i'll go by them and ENCOURAGE them by some comment .

Some kind souls did that for me when i started many moons ago !!

I too keep our skis in side have a Saab Sportcombi with plenty of room inside for all our ski gear

Does keeping your skis on the car really cause damage?

Not as much as keeping your skis on IN the car would... particularly if you're driving!

I have a Thule box, which is great, but I can't leave the skis in there overnight otherwise they will rust.

I just open up my "Ski-Tote" and my 207cm K12 712's fit flat on my Barrecrafter Ski Rack. Put on my "Spenco" shin pads before slipping into my rear entry Salomon SX90's and I am good to go.

That is a sweet get up. The Reflex poles have to be "Fluted". That extra machining of the aluminum made enough difference to charge $75/pair back then.

I have no problem with them in general, but dammit, stay off the double blacks! It's amazing what people find themselves on Outer Limits any time they groom it. "Outer Limits is groomed? Sweet! I'll go scrape all the snow off it now as I meander back and forth at the breakneck speed of 3mph!"

But now they can go tell all their buddies in the bar how they tore up that Double Diamond!!!:-D

I hate when people slam the safety bar down immediately without saying.."Coming Down" or"Bar Down"..very rude..

I bought my helmet because of safety bar slammers. They hit me in the head. They also hit my shoulder and are saying "what's wrong?". I tell them to apologize or I will get them arrested for reckless endangerment. They usually comply! Ed' :uzi:

I got a new helmet this season and there's like 20 scratches on the top from idiots slamming the bar on my head without warning. I also like when they pull the bar down when you've barely sat down and haven't left the loading area yet. A few times my head would've been hurting if I didn't have the helmet on. I also like when they lift the bar to get ready to unload without warning you and your feet are still on it!

If for no other reason than the safety bar slam, my helmet has paid for itself hundreds of times over! Especially if you're tall (I go 6'3" before I step into my ski boots)
