if anyone's bored.....could you list the "least challenging" to the "most challenging" on-map glades for a first timer there? Or any other info you might wanna give, regarding them.

Just my opinion on the on map woods. If they are on the map think of the level of challenge of the glades relative to the trails that they border or parallel. There are many more "off the map" options.

At Lincoln Peak least challenging would be Deeper Sleeper followed by Eden. Deeper Sleeper has a few tight turns at the top but opens up. Eden has been thinned out nicely and slightly steeper. These are the only two woods that I would ski solo.

More challenging are Lew's Line and Egan's Woods. Egan's is longer and steeper and you will likely come out on Lower Birdland.

I would rank the order from least to most challenging at Mt Ellen to be Walt's Woods, Semi-Tough Woods, Tumbler Woods, Bravo Woods then Exterminator Woods. Low angle woods at Mt Ellen get the fewest skiers of any on map glades.

Part of the challenge in any glade skiing lies in the entry / exit trails, amount of traffic and the snow conditions. Remember that looks can be deceiving! This weekend there was a few inches of fresh snow from Friday but hardpack and crust lurking below kept most people out of the woods.

I would ski basically any of the marked woods alone, but that may not be the best idea. None of the woods are terribly challenging, but I would tend to agree with the order that WWF put out there. Egan's is probably the toughest of the marked glades, as the entrance can be pretty tight and a bit on the skied off side.

.02 old info

This weekend there was a few inches of fresh snow from Friday but hardpack and crust lurking below kept most people out of the woods.

Last Tuesday I was at Mt Ellen most of the day.It rained Sunday night hard all night and a bit of the morning on Monday, then temps Monday night dipped into the low 20's on the hill. I did not see anyone in the woods all day Tuesday....nor did I see anyone on F.I.S. The hill was full of J1's free skiing after their runs in the super G course, even they stuck to the green and blue, easy black groomers.

It was bulletproof in there....we took a quick peek at Walt's and quickly went back on piste.

Introducing our heads to a tree or two was not an enticing choice.

I would suggest giving it a good sniff before jumping in and defin going in with 3 or more skiers to be safe.
