Resort or Ski Area: Gore Mountain

Conditions: Powder/Packed Powder

Trip Report:
I think Gore is my new go-to holiday week place. Every parking lot was full, cars were parked along the entire access road, etc. On the hill? No lines, not too crowded, and Burnt Ridge/Little Gore were nearly deserted.

Sagamore on Burnt Ridge was the hands down ROTD for me. Thin cover in a few spots, but a perfect mix of powder, fun bump lines, no one there, and great terrain features made it my best run. 46ER was good but could use a little more base for my taste, nearly open waterbars.

Skied all over, Northside, High Peaks, main hill, etc. Looking forward to another awesome day there tomorrow, been snowing non-stop, picked up at least 5-6" while skiing during the day and it's still coming down.

Conditions were great pretty much everywhere all day. Lots of great snow to be had, glades were open, I think tomorrow they're going to be 99% open.

As for (very minor) complaints: They are completely incompetent at managing traffic getting out of the area. The plowing was also impressively poor. Tour bus and various cars in snowbanks, etc. While I can drive well, many can't. 6" of snow over the course of a day shouldn't result in the mess they had.

Agree Gore was awesome both 12/28 & 12/29 (and I'm sure 12/27). I always thought the place was boring and overgroomed but with some of the natural trails under the lift lines open it was a ton of fun. Bumps and cutup everywhere. My best east coast ski days in 2 years. They're still really conservative on opening trails. Put out a couple of thin cover circles and let the skier/rider make the choice.

Management is horrible. On 12/28 we were forced to park at lot H and walk the 1.5 miles uphill. Of course 10 minutes after we started walking they told everyone to park on the side of the road and the situation cleared up. Once we got to the hill it took 45+ minutes to purchase tickets. The line was only 15 people long/booth but these people have never heard of six sigma. I'm fairly certain they were using an abacus and hand drawing each ticket. Got to the mountain road before 9:30 (direct from NJ), didn't hit the lift until 11:00. All worth it in the end.

Definitely have to get there early to beat the chaotic parking lots. Thursday was the only time I've ever paid for 'premier' parking. My girlfriend is not good at lugging equipment..well worth the 12 extra bucks.

I have skied Gore for the past 5 days, it has been great every day. Lots of snow, good cover on most trails, even those with no man made snow, although you did have to watch out on a few places.
