I know there are a few Gore regulars on here. I've never skied Gore and I'm thinking about skiing there either on my way to Vermont or my way back. Based on the forecast..do you think they'll have a good variety of terrain open in a week and a half? Thanks in advance for any responses..

BRACE FACE.

Um.. they started blowing when everyone else did- Finally posted a picture today. blowing all the way to the bottom. If temps keep looking this good I think you should be good pretty much anywhere in the NE.

I wish I was good with names, because I would tell you what trails will be open right off the bat. I've been skiing thee for a very long time, just don't really care what the trail names are, especially on thel lower mtn.

Topridge will be open (good trail)

Wouldn't be surprised if Rumor was open either.

I'm sorry I'm so lazy. Go to skiadk.com

Rumor will most definitely not be open . . .

Entire top of Mountain won't be open . . .

You're looking at Topridge, Fox Lair, Wild Air, Sunway 3B, Quicksilver, Jamboree and The Arena, if you have a trail map handy (or there's one on the Gore website).

That's basically 3-4 ways to go down . . . plus they usually set up a couple of early season rails for teh Jibbers.

How quick do you think they'll want to open up their recent expansion? Before the top?

One thing I typically try not to do is visit a 'new to me' area early season or when the weather has been crappy. I'd rather give a mountain it's fair shake when it's in top condition before I make judgment on it.

Now that's a good question . . . My guess is that they'll blow on "Sagamore" and "Echo" at the same time as Hawkeye and Chatiemac (after opening up Showcase and Sleighride). That'll open up basically 4 distinct mountain pods, separating up the Holiday crowds.

Then they'll move on to Uncas and Lies, and finally, the big boy (Rumor).

All of this is based in no part on anything I've heard, just educated guesses . . .

Early season variety is so-so. Expect a steep(ish) groomer (Topridge) and a few winding runs down to the base. You'll definitely be missing out on Gore's highlight's-- Straightbrook, gnarly liftlines, and numerous glades.

I would echo Deadheadskier's comment:

Thanks for all suggestions..it's good to know that there are several Gore regulars I can ski with when I go to Gore. Where do most overnight visitors stay? North Creek? How far is Gore from Albany?

I stay in the Super 8 in Warrensburg, NY. It's right off the Northway (I-87). It's then about 30-40min to Gore in the AM.

Gore to Albany is 60-75 min.

If you want to stay close to Gore, I recommend the Black Mountain Inn (when you get out of Gore, take a right instead of a left and it's at the intersection of Route 8 and Peaceful Valley Rd.).

If you're on your way to Southern VT, you'd probably be better off staying around the Queensbury/Lake George area (so you don't have to drive around Lake George in the morning). There are any number of cheap lodging options around there . . .

Not doable. I went off it on a 2 foot pow day a couple years ago by mistake. Ended my ski day, and lets just leave it at that.
