Alright I have heard about a small ski area right in North Creek and many discussions about connecting to it from Gore. Can somebody point me to some site where I can get the details of this, or just give me and probably several others the history behind this place including just where it is exactly

From doing some quick Googling, what I can gather is that the North Creek ski area is owned and operated by Gore (ORDA). The interconnect seems to be a work in progress as the articles I've found indicate that it has been approved.

This article from a few years ago has a brief history of the area:

Hopefully someone with more first hand knowledge will chime in with more accurate answers...

Yes the terrain at the ski bowl is flat, however, what the connection will do (it is a work in progress with phase 2 being compleeted this summer for opening this winter. Gore is openeing as new terrain area called "Burnt Ridge" over the next few years (as I understand it) there will be more terrai opening up with the intentions to run terrain all the way to the ski bowl, in effect connecting the town with Gore mopuntain, so that one may stay in town, walk to the ski bowl and ride lifts all the way up to Gore proper, and ski there all day. Pretty good if you as me because there are not to many ski-in ski-out towns in the northeast. It should also bolster some economic development in the town as well.

Hopefully the Governor doesn't administratively IMPACT/IMPOUND the funding in light of TODAY"S meltdown on Wall ST and its further impact on an already GRIM NYS budget.

NYS gets 20% of its Tax evenue from the STREET and broker EOY bonuses

The problem is there is next to nothing in town and no lodging

and it really wouldn't be ski-in/out as its on the other side of the highway and requires a bit of walking

I'd like to know how they came up with these numbers as there isn't lodging in the immediate area to accomodate these numbers. Many of the existing restuarants have closed. The ski shop in town closed. From what I've seen I'd say the daytrippers number is higher than 65 percent. If that is not the case why can't at least one bar survive? And the few restuarants around start closing up at 9pm. We have had problems more than once last year just trying to get a bite to eat after 9.

I'd like to know where they have all these people staying. And if 65% are staying in the area why can't anything survive?

In 1995, Gore estimates that their skier mix was 35 percent destination skiers and 65 percent
day skiers. In comparison, the ski facility currently (2007) estimates that the mix is 65 percent
destination skiers and 35 percent day skiers. As such, Gore’s economic impact has increased
not only in response to higher ski visit numbers, but also in response to increasing numbers of
destination skiers.

Destination Visitors – overnight ski visitors who spend at least one – and often
multiple nights – at or in the vicinity of the ski area. Expenditures can include ski
tickets, rentals, lessons, food and other sundry items at the ski area as well as travel
costs, lodging costs, house rental costs, meals, entertainment ancillary recreation and
other items outside of the ski area.

Really? Wow. Do you have a source? Those 2007 numbers seem a little wacky to me.

I have a suspicion as to where the growing number of destination skiers are staying-- Lake George.

The Lake George area has done a good job of marketing itself in recent years as the place to stay, despite being a half hour away from the mountain. With better lodging and a greater variety of activities nearby, only a hardcore skier that wants first tracks would stay in North Creek. Hopefully, the interconnect and the proposed Front Street Development gives North Creek the shot in the arm that it needs.

Choppers are setting the post in the AM. That expansion is going to open the decent terrain/

If you took their total skier visits for 2007 and used the 65% number you would have about 1000 people on a daily basis they claim are "destination skiers". Obviously this number would be higher on weekends and lower on weekdays. I have not been in Lake George in the winter, but can't believe the number is anywhere near that. So where are the rest of these destination skiers staying?
