Trails Hiked: Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook, Hancock Loop
Total Distance: 9.8 mi
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Conditions: Trails in good shape, nice weather
Special Required Equipment: none
Trip Report:
I started hiking at 9:00 with a temp in the low 60's and a sunny sky. The first 2.5 mi of the hike is dead flat, gaining only 600 ft of elevation over that distance, which made for an enjoyable walk in the woods. All river crossings were easy due to the low level of the water. I got to the split in the Hancock Loop Trail at 10:20 and stopped for a snack and to decide which way to go up. I chose to ascend to south side and started up at 10:30. Here the trail goes from flat to steep, although it was not as steep as I was expecting after hearing about it and reading the description in the book that calls if "relievedly steep". I got the the South Peak, took a breather, had another snack, and headed across the ridge at 11:00. I had lunch at the outlook on the North Peak and headed down at 11:45. The trail down was not quite as steep but it was loose in places making it fun. Got back to the car at 2:10 after a nice hike on a nice day.
