Hawaiian skiing report March 2006

I was not sure where to post this, but I thought that I would share some of my brothers pictures from his ski trip in Hawaii last week. He did not say much about the skiing exept that the snow was heavy and the altitude was "breathtaking"

I am not sure about the vertical, I sent my brother an E-mail after he sent me these pictures asking him questions about the skiing. I am still waiting for him to answer, but the pictures look nice.

Yes it high, actually 13,792' so it closer to 14,000'. I guess that he picked a good year to visit with the "pineapple express" in full gear with tons of precipitation in Hawaii. The NWS actually had a heavy snow warning for the higher summits yesterday.

My parents took us there when I was 9. I don't remember much of the trip, but what I do remember was incredible. We hiked into the Mauna Loa crater and drove up Mauna Kea. I don't remember seeing any snow when we were there...but we were there in the summer.

Man, now I really want to go back.

Hawaii is absolutely perfect. I was there last August and not a day goes by I don't wish I was back.

Just bring a fist-full of dollars.

I'd heard about this skiing on Mauna Kea and it looks better than I expected, looks like some fun lines to ski. Is that E.T.'s spaceship behind your brother in the picture?

No, it's not a spaceship, just a bunch of telescope observatories. My brother stayed until past sunset and got a really good look at Saturn through one of the observatory telescopes.:-o
