This may seem like a dumb question, but is there any real difference between a helmet geared toward skiers and one geared more toward snowboarders? I don't mean as far as safety is concerned-- I'm thinking more along the lines of are there any features that snowboarders want in a helmet that skiers don't want/need overall? I just got thinking about this because I read someone mention somewhere that they thought the Giro G10 was geared more toward snowboarders than skiers . . . Is it just a style difference? I'm not sure I can really tell the differences . . .anyone care to enlighten me? For example, of these helmets (Giro 9, Giro G10, Smith Platform and Smith Premise) which is more of a skiers helmet-- if any. Thanks

j/k... I don't think there's any difference. most seem to be labeled as "Snowsports" helmets.

Just get one that fits and has features you want/need. For example, I had a Giro nine last season. Great helmet. Good value. Lightweight. This year I upgraded to the G10. I like the look of the helmet and the slider to open the vents is a nice feature (I lost one of my nine inserts; although to their credit, I had a set replaced free of charge by Giro). The G10 also runs just a tad smaller and the G10 Large fits me better than the Nine Large which was just a tad loose.

Agree with Hawkshot...the skiing ones also tend to have more vents and fit like a bike helmet.
Oh and i love my G9- it saved my ass last week at belleayre. I bent down to adjust my boot, totally lost my footing on ice, skis up in the air and my shoulder slammed into the ice- my head snapped back and bounced off the ice. I have wiplash from damn fall but my noodle is fine. Way to go helmet.
