I started the weekend night riding at Gunstock on Friday night. Very soft spring-like conditions so I went up Saturday night and skied with the kids. It started soft around 4 pm but as the temps dropped the mountain got pretty hard and fast. We left around 9 and I got up early this morning to hit Loon by 8.
I'd have to say that the condtions were normal New England hardpack. They have guns cranking out snow all over the mountain.
This was a bit tough on the face, but nice under foot.
There were some closed, almost bare trails but what was open was reasonable. If nothing else, we had the very best weather for January: adequately cold, no wind, and good strong sun. Sure beats rain.
