Sweet, sounds like good reasons to not be around. Where in NH are you looking to move to? We have several members here that may be able to help you out in your search...

I have been in touch with a few posters here already, but welcome any other advice I may be able to glean about the fine state of NH.

My finace (she'll likely be wife by the time we move) and I are looking in the White Mtn region. Im particular this weekend we will be looking at properties in Lancaster, and I belive possibly some in Littleton. Im told Lancaster has more "bang for the buck", but work would likely be towards Littleton.

Thanks for leting me know about the NH members, hopefully some will reach out.

Again..thanks for asking :)

Don't be....you're not all that far if Hunter is where you reside......and the Catskills are cool too...adks...vt, etc..all pretty much in your backyard..no need for envy...

Im a little apprehensive of the move as I have no friends or family in that area, but i'll have my wife and i can make friends.. I hope.. :)

You are very gracious SkiDog, but I have to agree with B on this one...I'm jealous too.

Pre-approval is important...it makes you a more attractive purchaser, key in today's overheated housing market.

Just to add more to NOT be jealous about...I am essentially up and moving...buying the NH house concurrently with the NJ property and tightening the belt until november, then just up and moving to NH, not really having a job setup....so im taking a chance...

Anyone know of any good/decent work?? I'm all ears..

Well the house hunting went well, saw a bunch of properties. A couple I actually liked. All the properties this trip were located in Lancaster, which is a very pretty town. Likely will go back in about a month to see what else is available, it is the time of the year for people to sell..hopeing to have something purchased by the end of summer..likely move in late fall/early winter...

I'm a fan of the White's myself.

What was great about Lancaster is almost every home I looked at had a view of the Presi's....and thats just too nice...Still a little worried about jobs, but the relator said I should be able to find something in my chosen profession...only time will tell...

Hopefully i'll find something soon..if anyone has any advice..im all EARS...

Thanks in advance..

Everytime I have driven thru Lancaster I thought it looked like a nice town. Curious why your moving there and what kind of work do you do? I would think the real estate prices are much cheaper in Lancaster than Jersey so wouldn't you end up with some cash after you sell your place? Incredible views of Mt Washington from there and easy commute to Cannon. If your good with a chainsaw there is plenty of work.

What kind of work are you looking for? The area is obviously not an economic hotbed. I grew up over in StJ and know that area well. If you like GIS, try microdataGIS (microdatagis.com). There are a few manufacturing facilities as well (Lydall, EHV). In Littleton is the Littleton Coin Company. Check the Caledonian for job listings: www.caledonianrecord.com. Be prepared that you may have to drive quite a ways to work.
Hope you have a successful move!

To answer a few questions in prior posts. I am moving so that I can be closer to the MTNS, jersey hardly has any "great" hiking terrain. Lancaster is just one of the areas we are looking into. Travelling an hour each way for work would be "acceptable". my backround is Network administration....but I am open to new opportunities.

As mentioned, the real estate prices in Lancaster are much lower than where I am in new jersey...this is one of the motivating factors for the move. Cash in on the Jersey property and put a huge chunk of the profit into the NH home to have little to NO mortgage...this is the reason why I COULD change jobs as I don't necessarily need the additional income that I had in Jersey as my monthly mortgage payments will be MUCH MUCH lower...

Hope this helps...again I am ALL EARS..for suggestions on locations in the white mtn region as well as employment opportunities.

thanks in advance.

Everyone has nitch or a story.
I have the same conversations when I see folks and I ask....How do you get to ski mid week? One of these answers will click with me also I'm certain.
