Staying cheap!

Some may not think this place is not clean enough, some may think 35-40 minutes is too far to drive to Sugarbush, But how can one beat $59 Friday night, $59 Saturday night and $45 Sunday night for a grand total of 178 with tax and charges for the Holiday weekend. I found these rates through Travelocity. Only issue is no cancellation! Stilll gotta love those prices though!

With all due respect, I live in Montpelier, I've been driving to the 'Bush from Montpelier for years and I can confidently say that it is NOT closer or quicker by going through Roxbury Gap. That's a surefire way to add at least 15 minutes to the drive (as opposed to 100B), as well as put yourself on a road that is definitely more dangerous than 100 or 100B in bad weather. Coming up from points further south, Roxbury Gap is a no-brainer.
Not to go off-topic but my experience to/from MRG has been that while in good weather Roxbury Gap saves perhaps 15 miles when coming from the south, timewise it's about the same as 100B/100. Maybe the Gap saves a little time to Lincoln Peak since that route leaves you at 100 right near the Bush access road?

However, the unpaved Roxbury Gap road is a stellar choice for the ride home in spring when you haven't gotten your fill of bumps on the mountain ;-). Then there's the short but also unpaved Lover's Lane on the Northfield side. Rodeo time.

You'd better know what you're doing, though. We get several guests each year who get lost and/or stuck following their GPS or Mapquest over the RG. It's too bad, because if you take it, you pop onto Route 100 literally two blocks from the inn, but I don't feel I can ever send people that way.

Another caveat about Lovers Lane in the spring is that due to the mud many times it's impassable so heading south on 12A to Randolph is the better safe than sorry route in the spring. There is a shortcut from 12A avoiding Randolph to I89.

The 2 block thing on Rt 100 is if you take Airport Rd which requires a turn that many people miss and end up taking Dump Rd into Warren Village. I always direct people to take a left at the 4 way down into Warren Village. When giving directions I always believe in the simplier the better.

From Barre or the Hilltop I always go north on 89 to exit 9 and 100B. If coming from the south and going straight to the hill I now jump off at exit 4 and go up 12A to the RG. From Barre there is no times saving going south over the Gap especially since I am heading to North/Ellen. Doing my Snow dance this storm keeps tracking north and west for Sunday and Monday!

Two blocks....hmmm, just how big is a country block anyway? I think technically I live one block from work- it's just a looooong block.

So, I stayed over the MLK weekend. Still the same place not any different and they do have local channels and HBO, and the smoking rooms have moved upstairs. These are nice rooms actually as they were non-smoking before and I stayed in one last year and it had nice mattresses. . The old smoking rooms are closest to the lobby on the first floor. Don't stay in those rooms. Try and get a room in the middle of the building I have found those rooms to be the best. Anyways, took 89 to 100b to Ellen. It was 27 miles one way from the hotel! So, about 35 - 40 minutes.
